There's a lot to think about here. By publishing it, I'm not necessarily endorsing his conclusions. I just think there's something here worth considering.

This, by the way, is no different that saying "I'm not racist...but..."This is why the entire "we need to talk to these people!" is bullshit. They are never speaking in good faith.

I mean "most of human history" really...

Yes! I love some good banjo-picking. The blending of African and Celtic music that happened in the South created some of the most beautiful music in the world, IMO. I'm a big fan of roots and old-time, music, and I wish more people were humbled by the contributions made to American culture by an enslaved people.

I halfway agree. There is no reason African-Americans are all so Christian except slavery. Much like colonialism in Africa. I feel a slight bit sad when I hear Jesus talk from them....I feel even worse when I see all the Korean and Vietnamese churches because that destruction of their culture was even more recent.

Bottom line is just that there are only two truly poisonous religions in the world, that will do anything to convert people. I don't like either one much, and am not moved when their more liberal adherents protest they are religions of peace, or love, or whatever.

Humbug.

YES! I always thought that was hilarious: "God loves everyone and wants you to live joyfully in the kingdom of heaven with him. But if you don't love him back, HE WILL LET YOU BURN ALIVE FOR ETERNITY." They make capital-g God sound like an abusive spouse.

I thought "weird for the sake of weird" was Dadaism.

The Evangelist embrace of Trump has made me decide that religion is the number one problem humanity has. It trains people to accept lies as the truth, which is basically a cancer on humanity and the planet.

I mean think about it. It's just like Candide. We live in a universe that is hostile to life--where all the laws of physics would just as soon that we were dead. We live in a world where all these horrible things happen, and where humans add to all those horrible natural phenomena--wars, murder, racism, sexism, genocide... And yet, if you believe in a benevolent god, somehow all of this has to be part of his divine plan, and it all has to be, ultimately, good for us.

How could Xtians be anything but insane?

Would you please come to California and start a club with my husband so I don't have to listen to his saying the exact same things (over and over)?

So you are saying this guy failed history?

That and greed. Add greedy preachers (Osteen, et al) and you see the bigger problem.

Oh for the love of Christ. Why do these bible thumpers think that Christianity is THE ONLY way to get to God and you’re damned to hell otherwise? And what if you don’t ascribe to any God? What business is it if anyone’s? If Christianity is supposed to teach everyone how to be good, it’s failing tragically. In fact it’s a big bully that’s bludgeoning humanity with their justification of racism, misogyny, sexism and hate for anyone outside who it deems not correct. And that apparently varies by user. Too many wars are fought in the name of God. I don’t think that’s what he wants but then I’m not a Christian so WTF do I know?

No doubt millions and millions of lives have been lost needlessly for purely secular reasons. Doesn’t change the horrors caused by organized religions, just goes to show that a lot of people are dicks.
