SF got wrecked by high tech. Lots of conservative/libertarian tech-bros who don't like to look at the homeless, who were there before they were. So... take a bad situation and make it worse, what with the obscene rent and housing prices. And the usual layer of ultra conservatives whose feet never touch the sidewalks who tend to control SF while no one is watching.
The reason for that is because it's FUN and SATISFYING to brutalize criminals, much more so than it is to "help" them in any way. People don't want progressive ideas about policing to work because they LIKE seeing other people get brutalized and have their lives ruined. The fact that they "did something to deserve it" exonerates them from feeling like shitty, vulturous sadists while they savor the pleasure of watching others suffer.
You're sort of proving my point--if Democrats just sit there and say "well, we don't own the media, they must be owned by the Republicans, I guess we're fucked" then yes, we are indeed fucked! Or, maybe, we learn to do what Republicans learned long ago--manipulate media coverage to get our points through to our targets, and find alternative means of getting our message out.
But Boudin often received the blame, despite ongoing reports of a lackadaisical police response to burglaries and thefts in the city, with arrests made in only a tiny percentage of car break-ins — significantly limiting the DA's ability to file charges.
THIS! Hard for a DA to file charges against criminals when the cops won't get off their overpaid, overfed asses to do their job. And yet it's the cops that whine the most about "rising crime."
You can be for criminal justice reform and also acknowledge there are bad people who need to be locked up and pretend to give a shit when valid issues like shoplifting or hate crimes are brought up.Boudin didn't do that well enough and it bit him in the ass.
People are nucking futz, even in San Francisco. A few million well placed dollars and you could get God recalled.
So far Caruso has 42, Bass 37. My guess is that the De Leon voters are going to largely be hers for the taking. Same as Robert Luna and Villanueva.

I can't comment until I hear what Fukui has to say...
If they do that, who's going to clean up their messes and wait on them when they go to the store or out to eat?

In the summertime in Boston, Mungo Jerry's song was THE BALLZ!

Defund the police was stupid as hell.
Yea...stuff like that is why we lose.
Blowing off valid issues they bring up isn't the way to go.
Yup.Boudin didn't even bother to try to get in front of bad stories and it bit him in the ass.
At least Dok mentioned it, but the article from a few days ago didn't at all

They will eventually resort to eating the rich...
