So we're going to do a little comparative analysis here

Donald -- on his way to visit a leader of another foreign country -- has been doing a rant in the middle of the night on his literally failing social media channel about "how Black people are a public menace" -- when it is he, Donald the Confederate and open admirer of historic Confederate leaders, is the actual public menace

Anyone who knows anything about public behavior needs to deepen their understanding of how such violent rhetoric in the hands of a person sitting in a seat of power grants license to that person's "followers' in those "followers" minds to commit violence toward the targets of the rhetoric

MEANWHILE

ADA advocates had better know that most of the rights under that law are because of the work fo the Black Panthers

For anyone who doesn’t know, the Black Panthers were pivotal to the disability rights movement and the eventual creation of the ADA. They provided massive amounts of support and protection to the disabled activists, many of whom were Black, especially when the cops started getting violent towards peaceful protesters.

One has the feeling that the reason Roberts and Alito keep favoring Repugnicans is that they know that when the Dems take control, they'll be impeached and lose their cushy jobs.

"M"'s avatar

Roberts has been like this since 1982, Richard

One of the ACLU voting rights attorneys was on X a few days ago talking about how, during Roberts' confirmation hearings, they presented report after report on how vociferously he had argued to the REAGAN Administration against expanded voting rights -- or, really, any voting rights at all for Black people

And Senate Judiciary passed him out of committee and confirmed him anyway

REHNQUIST, prior to having his reputation whitewashed (npi), used to stand out in front of Arizona polling places, where he was from, to intimidate voters from marginalized communities away from exercising their franchise

I feel like there are more than a few professions here in the United States whose codes of ethics could use some serious revision

An "honor system" only works when the people in it have honor

All of them need to go to PRISON. I don't want to hear "retirement" or "impeached" unless it includes CHARGES. So sick of these fucks, who very well know what they are doing, getting away with it.

"M"'s avatar

It's not just that they know what they're doing

It's that they've known for literal decades

https://www.wonkette.com/p/scotus-overrules-self-from-april/comment/257839831

But also it's that the voters who supported them, however indirectly, by failing to support changes that would contain or constrain the actions they're taking now -- HAVE ALSO known for decades

So anyone who turned their heads away because "it doesn't have anything to do with me; I'm just trying to earn a living over here" has been and is currently complicit

Even if they remain employed, “How can I be a special little fascist star if I’m only one among 13 justices?”

That's LITERALLY WHY THE COURT EXPANSION PROGRAM IS NECESSARY

I keep failing to understand how people can not see the connections unless they're literally turning their heads away

What's really disturbing is that the MAGA party no longer makes even the slightest attempt to disguise their true intentions, that being to give them an unfair advantage. and artificially change the balance of seats in the Congress.

Trux Mint In Box's avatar

The only good thing to make out of this is that it REEKS of desperation. This is their last stand and they know it. They’re still going to lose the house but maybe by not as much but they also may be more likely to lose Senate seats because they are pissing people off more.

Also let’s see how quickly they decide Virginia. I bet the decide to let the new map stand but only after waiting too long for it to matter.

VaselineHabits's avatar

I remember when Trump first for elected it was, "The great white nashing of teeth" that they were losing power.

Look at them now, 10 years later. Trump has managed to get everyrhing he wants by other old white rich men. Maybe it is their death rattle, but they're taking awfully long with it.

Trux Mint In Box's avatar

Well the big change is that the SCOTUS conservatives have just completely removed the masks. I’m not saying it’s imminent. It might take another 10 years or even 20. That’s what they are trying to do here. Hold it off as long as possible, but it’s still coming.

Alito's opinions are all over his face, that's why his puss is so sour.

I'm late to the party here, but...

Enough pretending.

MAGA SCOTUS justices are partisan hacks and nothing more.

EXPAND THE COURT.

NOW.

All I want for Christmas is for these fascist hacks to be publicly hanged.

RRJKR's avatar

Too quick. they need to be publically humiliated, then stripped of their positions and wealth. Let them languish in poverty for the rest of their hopefully long miserable days.

Educated guess: the guy who got hit by a plane on the runway in Denver was a suicide by airplane.

MRK's avatar

I find a failure of communication far more likely. There are literally hundreds of less complicated ways to commit suicide.

RRJKR's avatar

Yet not nearly as spectacular!

Richard S's avatar

But would he have made national news?

kmblue187's avatar

I suppose Southern states galloping to redistrict doesn't cause second thoughts in this corrupt Court. Hey Roberts and Alito and the others who signed on, the action down there proves you're wrong!

MRK's avatar

Their public statements are being proven wrong in record time. Since they never actually meant any of it, though, they have no reason to care.

John Oliver JUST did a show about how THESE SUPREMES seem to love their shadow docket

https://youtu.be/qKeq4CEZtm8?si=chQeqsOsAKaohidb

They also keep siding with Trump and Republicans

John_atx's avatar

Speaking of redistricting in Texas, the Texas Tribune (no paywall, just like Wonkette), reported that the Republican dominated state legislature is considering redistricting again when they convene in 2027. They’ll “be taking a look at” state House and state Senate districts, state education districts. And, of course, they’re thinking about taking another whack at the US House districts.

VaselineHabits's avatar

Maybe it's because I've lived here my whole life, burn the Republicans to the ground.

Every single time I hear anyone bitching about the state and asking "why" - Republicans. Fucking Republicans ya'll keep electing then wonder why nothing changes and everything gets worse. Texas was better under a LADY DEMOCRAT.

John_atx's avatar

You’d think the folks here would come to the realization that after almost 25 years of total control of the state government, Texas Republicans are responsible for the mess. Used to be some normal ones, like Joe Straus and Kel Seliger, but Abbott and his billionaire owners ran them out

MRK's avatar

One thing we need to find a way to do is to get people to recognize how often the 'strong leaders' they think they're electing when they vote R directly undermine the will of the voters.

RRJKR's avatar

The whole concept of "America" is that we don't have or need "strong leaders". We had 'Strong Leadership", the British Crown.

All power is vested with the "people" who express their views and exert that power via elected representatives That's what we have lost sight of

MRK's avatar

Ha. That's not how people vote, which is the problem.

VaselineHabits's avatar

I feel like TEXAS has proved this repeatedly though, if they haven't figured it out yet... not sure there's much hope considering Republicans been cutting education this entire time.

One of the many reasons they don't want the poors in college, you'll figure out they've been hiding their bullshit for a long time.

MRK's avatar

Recent elections give me hope. It's not the faithful Republicans we need to worry about anyway. It's the people who don't always vote, who stay home because both parties are the same or vote Republican without really thinking about it while also voting for abortion rights. Getting them to see clearly is a priority.

MRK's avatar

They'll keep trying this shit. We have to overwhelm them at the polls to stop it.

A friend of mine in high school had a mean spirited and predictably contrarian grandmother who lived with them. She had a look on her face, much of the time, like the one on Alito's face in that picture.
