My church held its first Mass since before Palm Sunday, but we stayed in our cars and were told (via e-mail and a sign) which radio station to tune to. I live with a high-risk family member, so I did not partake in the host-only Communion service, despite its precautions. (Perhaps if it were offered on a paten attached to a six-foot pole that was turned over so the host would fall into our cupped, gloved hands before we got back in our cars to consume it...) Note: I live with two relatives, one lapsed, and the other a militant atheist, so they stayed home.
I work for a church (as an atheist with pagan-Buddhist leanings, I find this quite amusing) that just resumed services on a VERY LIMITED basis this past week. In-person attendance is restricted to a total that is half that of California, and that is further split into two large areas. Masks, sanitzer, and temperature checks required. No one over 65 allowed; no socializing after. Communion done by placing bread into worshippers mouths w no direct contact. In other words, they're actually being SMRT about it.
Got an email yesterday from an *extremely upset* person who simply cannot believe that ol' Jeebus isn't sufficient protection for everyone, and this is just not the church he knows and boy oh boy is he ever gonna take his ball and go home, uh, *somewhere*. No cure for stupid.
Well... Rachel Maddow just pointed out that since DC is not a state, Trump could call in the military there and it would be LEGAL. While she didn't say it, I presume he could do also that with territories like Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, etc.
