From the view of the people: You can give the people wages that allow them to survive, or you can wait until the people come and collect what they need to survive from where they see those things concentrated.

The view from the oligarhs: I am not going to pay people NOT to riot and steal and pillage from me! That is ABSURD. Instead, I'll pay economists to do studies and news-readers and editorialists to call these 'so-called living wages' into question and politicians to say things like "ITS A JERB KILLER!"

It is cheaper to take the train from anywhere in Seattle to the airport than to drive your car and park in the long-term lot. Now if only there were a 520/90 train for the morning commute...
