In response to the recent mass shooting in Orlando, even some of the most diehard Fox News conservatives and Republican politicians are starting to warm up a little to the idea that some amount of gun control may be necessary. That perhaps those we have placed on the no-fly list ought not to have access to guns, that perhaps people shouldn't have the kind of guns that make it so darn easy to kill so many people at once. For most people, there's a tipping point where you realize that this is not a thing that is working out so well, and that people's lives are maybe just a little more important than the feelings of some assholes who just want to have these kinds of guns.

I'm so tired of people forgetting the first half of the one sentence Second Amendment. Is it so hard to quote an entire sentence?? Note that it says the purpose of the "people" (not individuals) to bear arms is to protect the State. USA had no standing army, did not want a standing army. The founders did not see much of a land threat. The real threat from abroad would come by sea. There is no restriction on the Navy in the Constitution, but any army that was created had to be reviewed and renewed every 2 years. (Art. I, Sec 8) Thus every 2 years we have the Defense Appropriation Bill. The Enlightenment thinkers and activists strongly opposed a standing army. This was one of the biggest complaints of the Eighteenth Century. However, they knew that this large country of the 13 states and growing needed the capacity to quickly create a defense if a threat did arise. Thus, we have State Militias (called the National Guard now). The people needed to have arms to train to protect the USA from threats, from Indians or Canadians or any successful assault from overseas, or insurrections. Article I Section 8 is not very long, but is a fascinating read. In addition, the Constitution uses two words throughout with very distinctive meanings. "We, the PEOPLE, . . ." refers to all of us collectively. The term "PERSON", refers to the individual. Thus, "No person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained the Age of thirty Years." A right or duty given to "the people" as a whole does not mean that it cannot be restricted for "a person." The "people" have a right to vote, but we put restrictions of age and criminal convictions on "a person". We the People are guaranteed Free Speech, but "a person" can't yell "Fire" in a crowded theater.
I suppose the lesson here is, we have a 1st Amendment right to be fucktards about the English Language.
The 2nd fucking Amendment is ONE SENTENCE.
The SUBJECT of that sentence is the WELL REGULATED MILITIA, not arms.
So if you want to be a gun-humper, then go join the US Military (our Well Regulated Militia), let them give you a Mental Health Eval to see if you're not completely insane, then they'll TRAIN YOU, on how NOT to be a gun-humper, but a smart person who understands the AWESOME RESPONSIBILITY of protecting this country.
And NO, in spite of what your sick Red State teachers and redneck family told you, the 2nd Amendment is not a legal way to overthrow the US Government. And the fact you don't have enough common sense to understand that doesn't jive with the Sedition and Treason articles of the US Constitution, means you don't have the common sense to own or operate a firearm of any kind.
If you don't like this country anymore, you're free to either go somewhere else to live (if they'll have you), or vote to try to change things. What you're not legally allowed to do is shoot up the government because you disagree with it.
Brilliant post. Thank you. I've never understood the insanity of people who think the 2ndA gives them cart blanche to violently overthrow the government just because they disagree with it. Today's Militias = Insurrectionists, and insurrection is still illegal.
O'Reilly just missed his daily shot of Ailes' Kool-Aid. He'll be back to "normal" tomorrow.
Oh, I'm willing to bang them. Or at least their skulls. Against a vote-covered wall.
So, if we keep people on a terrorist watch list from buying guns, it will be a violation of all of the Breitbart's commentators' civil rights?
Ip so, fact so, All Breitbart Commentators are on a terrorist watch list. Quote Errat Demon Strata, baby.

EDIT: I just got around to watching his latest appearance on Colbert. The derp is back. Massive. Ugh. Even Colbert facepalmed during the interview.
Go ahead. Lots of us on Twitter are putting those around our names to annoy the Nazis by spamming their detector software.
It does. It's a signal to the other neo-Nazis to target the person.
IIRC, you didn't even get a vote in those days unless you were a male landowner.
I'm always running into online glocksuckers who are drooling at the thought of getting an opportunity to shoot them some LIEbruls.

Who are you referring to?
The shooting range I go to has a sign at the door that says all guns must be transported to and from the range unloaded and in a case. Tranny!
Unless Drumpf's president. He thinks you dissed him, he's definitely going to be starting something.
