What is it with the USA and combining bills? Why vote on funding multiple countries at the same time when they're going to use that money for very different purposes?

Ukraine will use it to conquer back their land and blow up some military hardware inside Russia.

Israel will use it to bomb and deport an entire ethnic group.

Taiwan will use it to posture against China, but I don't expect much to happen there yet.

Omnibus bills are nothing new. Also two of those three are morally right. Israel is morally gray

This is who is giving musk his Putin-loving opinions. His advisor David Sacks, he whispers Putin's poison in Musks ear. Remember when Musk posted 'his solution" to end the war in Ukraine, that was naive, shortsighted, and was basically give Putin whatever he wants? Sacks wrote that on twitter, way before Musk wrote it.

If the shoe were on the other foot (seditious Rethugs in an alternative universe supporting our allies and not their second-favorite oligarch) "discharge petition" (or even anything vaguely legal or illegal) would have happened weeks ago and any Democrat that stood in the way would be under "investigation" for "impeachment." That's what can be done when the MSM and an entire political party is focused on destroying Democracy...

Appeasement didn't work out well in the 1930's. That was the lesson we were all taught in our post war history classes. And appeasement has not aged well in 2024. Old Neville Chamberlain still gets kicked around, deservedly, for going soft for Hitler. But at least he didn't think it was good idea to join up on the side of the Nazis, unlike the current GOP.

Could part of the problem be that Musk, Ron Johnson (idiot) and the other pro-Russia people actually don’t know why a free democracy like Ukraine would be terrorized and oppressed and subjected to loyalty oaths if Russia conquered them? Could it be that the Russian people are simply too terrified and controlled by Russian state media to fully express their anguish at living under the rule of a dictatorship? Putin has people poisoned, thrown from windows and jailed indefinitely for daring to question him or dream for a better life. It’s horrifying to think about how different our lives would be if we weren’t free. Maybe they aren’t capable of understanding that. They think Ukraine should lay down their guns, turn over their free will and speech and surrender to oppression? The debate about America’s ability to afford to defend other nations is fine to have, but there should be no debate about Ukraine fighting for their lives and freedom. Did these people watch Braveheart and think, “what’s so bad about living under violent English rule and sharing your wives with English lords?”

Elon lived in apartheid SA so I can't speak for him, but RoJo and Vance were definitely alive in the USA when Russia was the enemy and we all learned in school that dictatorships are bad.

Elon is insulated from consequences, due to his enormous wealth, and is remarkably lacking of any knowledge of world history, so his advisor David Sacks (a Putin stooge) tells Musk what to think, politically.

That’s been the game all along. Trump would like nothing better than to see Ukraine fall. His buddy Putin will be happy, Trump will have another issue for the election (“Biden lost Ukraine!”), and he can point to Ukraine next time he wants to shake down NATO like the cheap thug that he is.

Why is Putin? Or, more to the point, why are Putins?

Like, do they just not see enough puppies or kittens as a child to develop a sense of nurturing? Or not get bothered by Sasha on the playground enough to make the connection that it's probably no fun for Boris when they do it to him, either?

What I don't get are the billionaire assholes like those behind the "He gets us" ad, funneling huge sums of money into shitting all over already marginalized groups that can't possibly hurt them.

One of Russia's biggest exports is White Supremacism, seriousl,y they have paramilitary camps that teach it. I saw a documentary on it when I lived in Canada.

"US intelligence is convinced that Russian authorities provide “indirect and passive support” to neo-Nazi groups operating in America and other countries. Yahoo News has had the chance to examine the issue more in detail. Documents obtained by the journalists revealed that the Kremlin "probably tolerates support from some private Russian organisations" for white nationalist movements because it is consistent with the Kremlin’s goal of aggravating social divisions in the West.

Intelligence agencies have acknowledged that Russian groups have tried to recruit and provide paramilitary training to North American associates in order to "expand their presence in the West, increase membership and raise money." According to these assessments, this pumping of resources into Western supporters of white supremacy "poses a potential threat to Western security by encouraging and making possible attacks on ethnic minorities and government facilities."

The intensive training thesis is supported by the fact that the Russian Imperial Movement (RIM), a monarchist paramilitary organisation that espouses the ideology of white supremacy, has tried to recruit Americans to train in camps in Russia. It was outlawed by the State Department two years ago."
