That's fine. Just so it passes.

Yes, but anything that limits guns is AMAZEBALLS so comparisons are not helpful.

Speaking of standards, the piece on Maria Bartiromo may need some flagging. As one who was flagged for a misogynist comment on Ms. Guilfoyle’s relationship with DJT Jr. I couldn’t help but notice the, uh, questionable comments on the formerly nicknamed “Money Honey.”

If you feel so moved, flag it. I'm not interested in the opinion of a male foreigner on the topic.

Excuse you, First Blood was an excellent study of trauma. It did not glorify violence at all. The later Rambo movies did, but who watches that trash?Though I did like Last Blood, that was almost back to the serious tone of the first one.

Ah, Rebecca clarified for me that news-related off-topicness needn't be nuked. Long gossipy conversations will.

That said, some semblance of on-topicness remains an aspiration.

Oh, so you flag when you feel like it. Got it.

No, I flag when I see it. I can't read EVERYTHING on here. Even Dok admits he can't. And I see enough without trying hard. If nobody else gives a shit, that's the way it is.

THE EXCITED STATES (C) ... a Canadian View

Americans love the Second Amendment,. they just don't want to read it So what does it say and what was its purpose? Here is the text:

'A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.'

How many GOP breast beaters about the 2 nd quote the first phrase? None. The 2 nd is not about the personal right to own guns. It's about militias. Historians agree the reason for it was to prevent the government from having a standing army. So if you wish to channel the Framers, you should abolish the US military. All in favor...? No doubt the Proud Boys and a few of their ilk would agree, so they can be free to terrorize.

The Framers and colonists did not carry weapons for protection from each other. This would only happen after the era of the 'Wild West' a period of relative lawlessness which did not occur in Canada. The laws in Canada about serious crime were, as they are today, federal laws. They were federally enforced by a federal police force, the North West Mounted Police, former name of the RCMP.

A useful comparison of the two occurred during the Klondike Gold Rush. Americans were welcome to enter the Canadian Yukon and thousands did, but before entering Canada, they had to pass through US Skagway. Here the only law was that of mobster 'Soapy Smith' who was there to 'mine the miners'. Shots rang out every night and murder was commonplace. All the dance halls and card games paid off Smith. One scam seems slightly comical. Smith operated a 'telegraph station' so new arrivals could tell home of their arrival. The wires only snaked off a short way into the bush, and were not connected to any outside network. This not prevent a reply from appearing shortly afterwards. Many returned to the coast after being skinned out by Smith. They were sometimes given the fare of their passage out by a kindly clergyman, Smith, in the garb of a cleric.(Then Smith went too far and a miners' deputation demanded he return a poke of gold he'd stolen. He and a member had a shoot- out, virtually face to face, and both were killed.)

The survivors then entered Canada and the strict regime of Superintendent Steele of the Mounted Police. They still had to fight the elements but not each other. It was the job of the government to protect them from each other. By and large it did, and still does.

Meh, I'll believe it when it actually happens. Randian Poodle or Turd Cruz will probably pull some last minute obstruction tactic.

So the bad news is probably that I didn't get a phone call in the past two days about that inventory at work I did so that means I'll probably get talked to about it when I go back to work this weekend.
