Ta, Dok. No child should go hungry, ever. No human should do without medical care when it's needed. These god-botherers who are ever so concerned about blastocysts and zygotes do not care if there's life after birth. Let's vote them ALL out.

Childless, catless single woman here supporting tax breaks and daycare for families with children. I wouldn't mind universal health care either.

UPDATE: They killed it. The party that says it hates childless cat ladies won't help married couples support their children. Weird.

There was a time when it was only the House that sported these sorts of inept, unqualified former used-car salesmen who got a little money behind them.

Someone you're going to be stuck with for at least six years, a little more careful consideration was afforded.

Mitch has been out of power for four years. Only thing that will get him past that is to either get power back or die. He will do the one thing he can if he is still around. Force through a rule change that suspends the filibuster for 4 years.

Instead of making an ad saying Republicans don't care about kids, make an ad saying Republicans voted against a tax cut to small businesses.

Since that's more important to a lot of centre and right wing voters

What is it that has made various senates lose their minds? The US House actually does its job for a change, but the US Senate throws a wrench in the the works.

And here's a statement for which I'd have called you crazy for my entire adult life: the Texas House of Representatives is the saner of the two bodies in the Texas Legislature. For that matter, for most of my life, the only time you'd see the word 'sane' in a statement regarding the Texas House would have been if it had the prefix 'in' ahead of it.

Cooling saucer, my entire ass.

Democrats may gain more by doing ads saying "Republicans refuse to extend tax cuts in place from the 2017 tax cut bill. They want to raise your taxes!!!" Starving post birth children is not a good way to get Republicans to listen to you. The they don't care as long as it's not their kid. But billionaires paying more tax will catch their attention. They are against that.

Schumer could end the filibuster. While he cant' get Sinema and Manchin onboard, he could convince a thug or two to switch sides with the enticement that they might get the Senate majority next term, and it might behoove them to make it look like the Dems killed comity, not the thugs. The filibuster is racist. Period. Letting it dominate the Senate's is insane and antidemocratic. End it now.

No he can't. A rule change can be filibustered.

The only way to get rid of it is when the new session starts. The rules package is a simple majority vote on the first day.

Expand full comment
Vincent J's avatar

I don't think that's true. McConnell ended the filibuster with a simple majority rule change for Supreme Court nominees. Reid ended it for a judicial thing as well if memory serves. Just end it.

Senator Schumer CAN TALK ABOUT the need to end the filibuster forever. He should talk about it EVERY TIME sh*t like this happens.

He CANNOT end the filibuster himself. (And I absolutely don't believe he can do it with "Republican support," which never exist when what we need to do is pass a good law.) But a simple majority in the U.S. Senate CAN end the filibuster. A simple majority in the U.S. Senate can change ANY stupid rule that it has imposed upon itself. There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that says it can't.

Right now, by simple majority vote, the U.S. Senate can decide that super-majorities are absolutely unnecessary for all purposes not specifically mentioned in the Constitution.
