Not only am I the only pro choice candidate, I'm also one of the only one whose first result on Google isn't a criminal allegation or statement about how they've been disbarred. Or whatever horrific shit comes up when you search for David Duke.

It's hard enough being a progressive liberal in deep red Louisiana (I live closer to the Texas border than to NOLA), but this election is especially trying. My congressman is one of the thousands of people running for Vitter's senate seat, so I also have to deal with a clown car of lunatics running for HIS seat. Which includes Clay "Cajun John Wayne" Higgins, the St. Landry Parish SD who made those insane Crime Stopper videos and got bitchslapped by the ACLU for forcing parish inmates to get all Jesus'd up.

ETA: The Jeff Davis 8 were not killed by a serial killer, or all by the same person. (I just finished the book. Boustany is my representative, yeesh.)

Ugh, Clay Higgins, a cop even cops hate, somehow.

Thank you for your comment. I wish you luck in the election. I knew Mr. Campbell when we were both much younger.

One comment: I *very* highly approve of Campbell's efforts to lower the cost of phone calls from jails. In '04, someone very close to me was in jail in Florida, and it was a racket - absurdly expensive charges, and by the minute!, AND you could only call one phone number, and it had to be a landline (i.e., "your home or relative"), thus making it as hard as possible for inmates to talk to anyone outside the jail.

This is, of course, in spite of the fact that studies show that more contact with folks outside the jail *reduces* recidivism.

See, I've clearly not watched enough to know one from the other.

This was, however, the exact music I was hearing.

Thanks too for your nice email, and sorry about the misspelling, which we've fixed. You're clearly too sane for the World's Greatest Deliberative Body, however. Hope you'll stick around Wonkette, too!

One of the greatest things about America is how so many people manage to get rich off the extremely poor. See also Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed, of course.

Ah, Louisiana. I lived there a couple years some time back, where I got to observe the dirtiest election I'd ever seen to that point, the 1996 Senate race between Mary Landrieu and Woody Jenkins. Tony Perkins (yes, that one) was Jenkins' campaign manager, and years later he got in trouble for renting David Duke's mailing list for the campaign. This will likely stand as the only election in which I've seen an ad from one candidate accusing another of stealing food from orphans (the thief being Jenkins). Nobody does elections like Louisiana, which may not be good for democracy but is usually good for entertainment value.

Well, to be fair, there's no reason why you would know the difference. I know it because it is (partly) my culture!

Punjabis tend to have throatier voices and the songs are mostly sung by men, whereas Bollywood songs tend to be more of a split between male and female and sound more 'polished.' There's also certain themes/instruments that are specific to Punjabi music, such as the tumbi and being a farmer. I wouldn't expect anyone who doesn't know much about Indian culture to know these things, whoever. Bhangra is sort of India's equivalent of rap/hip-hop. This title of this song, for instance, could be translated as 'The farmer has come to the fair'.

Punjab needs to get its shit together. We've produced Nikki Haley, Bobby Jindal AND Harmeet Dhillon (who did the Ardaas, I believe, at the RNC).

This is not Bollywood music, it is bhangra. Although Jindal is Punjabi in origin, so bhangra is actually more geographically accurate.
