When I read the headline to my wife last night, and it said it happened outside of a craft brewery, she said "Well, to be fair, 'outside a craft brewery' covers ALL of Portland." God I love her.
Wheeler, like many electeds, tred a fine line, personal safety wise. In years past I have engaged local electeds on transit, on the street, at restaurants... always careful to respect their time/space. And have benefited when I was able to do so.. direction to the person in the gov't that might help, support for advocacy, and sometimes just light talk. That was pre-now Portland. I don't envy those who choose to serve, often it comes with a target on the back. If that reality continues, who will choose to stand for election? Democracy dies, fascism takes root.
OK, I'll confess to going the fck off on my then-Representative Ben Gilman at my local train station when he was campaigning there many years back. I said (loudly) that he was more interested in supporting convicted spy Jonathan Pollard than the people in his own district (the local newspaper had reported that he had flown down to North Carolina to huddle with Pollard in jail just the previous week). Yeah, I was pissed and loud, but the idea that I'd follow him to his car and threaten him with violence is just so far out of my frame of reference that it would have never occurred to me, or any other normal human being for that matter.
He should try 9 inch heels. If you can not break your neck just walking in them, they are handy in a tight situation
Everyone needs to chill, but those who assault (I'm referring to the guy that took a swat at Mayor Wheeler and made contact) should be arrested.

If you walk up to someone to harass them for not wearing a mask, and YOU are not wearing a mask, exactly what fucking leg are you standing on, chum?
Ta, Stephen. Keep Portland Weird (yes, I know, they say that about Austin).
There are more low key neighborhoods in Portland where people eat at Arby's and panda express. It's not all like Portlandia.
