These lovelies need to be protected. Of course that won't happen during this administration. There are times when I wish someone would take a [redacted] to every Republican in D.C. If we could rid ourselves of this pestilence we would have better lives in this country.

And with that......well, good morning, Wonketariat!

Hey, Baby Bruno, you've been packing on a few pounds lately.

Grrrrrr. You'd better get out of here if you know what's good for ya.

I was doing a deep dive into music today, and I haven't heard this song in decades. It came out in 1971; I was only 11 at the time. But when I got to be a junior in St. Joseph's (12 years of catholic school with the penguin nuns), I heard it and it really blew me away and explained what I was already feeling. So this is dedicated to anyone surviving strict religious upbringing and survived!

I'm guessing those Texas Republicans were more upset about how racist the tweet *looked* in the run-up to an election. They don't really have any red lines on racism.

The Saudis were all-in on attacking Iran, but it has resulted in complete disruption of the oil market and has now put a halt to its oil shipments. Yesterday, MBS begged PAB for military help with the Houthis but was told “no.” He relies on Jared Kushner to act as his agent and to provide advice. How dumb can you be?

Good morning. I went to my aunt's 95th birthday over the weekend. My 101 year old aunt was there also too. You would never know either of them were the age they are. My 101 year old aunt said she wanted to be there this year because she doesn't think she will be alive for her baby sister's 100th. I'm not so sure... I didn't look at ANY news over the weekend. It was good. How the hell is everyone?

eppe's avatar

I feel like we have all had to deal with 101 years of undeserved aggravation since that clown descended that escalator 11 years ago making my admiration for your aunties all the more genuine. Otherwise I'm doing fine.

From the 60 Minutes desparate for an interview story:

"But after the two survivors voiced concerns, Hegseth met privately with them and asked if they wanted to participate rather than forcing their cooperation, the sources said. As a result, one of the pilots, dubbed “Bravo,” agreed to sit for an on-camera interview and discuss his experience,"

Completely ethical to have the big boss meet privately to "ask" them if they want to participate after they already said no thank you.

Rosy red ASS's avatar

Well THAT sounds ethical.........😳

Ted Cruz being humiliated at a football game in Texas reminds me of his football background while he was a growing boy in Houston TX. He attended Second Baptist High School where he played quarterback and set many Texas state football records for passing yardage, TDs scored and varsity cheerleaders dated. Texas football records do not keep track of teenage illegitimate offspring but I can't help but think Ted might have a claim to some records there as well.

Anyway, job well done there Ted! Those Texas Longhorn fans do remember you and your glorious contributions to Texas football record books. Now do some Monday night football.

M-X's avatar

I've got a young Ted story. Someone husb knew from his doctoral committee told him about being in a law school crowd with him, playing pool one night. Ted shot poorly, was furious, grabbed the eight ball and ran away.

Rosy red ASS's avatar

My sister had that game on but I "missed" FUCK TED CRUZ. I did see an anti Talarico add though. I walked out of the room so as to not explode.

I think I'm starting to hate Mike Johnson as much, if not more, than Donald Trump. He's so damn smarmy, condescending, and disingenuous. It's abundantly clear that he only cares for power, control, and the continued oppression of women and people of color. Trump could not have done what he's done in this term to fuck this country up without the enthusiastic help of Mike Johnson. I wish him nothing but the worst. I really do.

Sorry for the rant.

Diane's Less Hostile Username's avatar

He is completely out of his league and capabilities for managing his members of the house, that's for sure. If you're only answer to anything is "I have no clue what's going on," you are either stupid or incompetent, but in his case, definitely both!

"Jared Kushner, another one of Trump’s ugly little minions, is very upset that Ukraine won’t just roll over and give Daddy Putin the territory he wants. [Kyiv Independent]"

Does anyone think that TFG or Kushner ever studied the history of Ukraine? After Stalin starved millions of Ukrainians in the east, he forcibly resettled Russians into the region. Unsurprisingly, that's the main reason why Russian is spoken there today. We need real diplomats, not real estate salesmen.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝗿𝗮 𝗼𝗳 ‘𝟲𝟬 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀’ 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀

The Serious Newsperson cast of correspondents was different — goodbye, Scott Pelley; hello, Ross Douthat — and the production values seemed glossier, a little more Vice News than Huntley-Brinkley Report.

But for all the Sturm und Drang that has surrounded “60 Minutes” since the arrival of CBS News’s high-profile editor in chief, Bari Weiss, the version of America’s most watched news program that returned to CBS on Sunday looked a lot like the show viewers have come to expect.

Norah O’Donnell landed a gripping interview with an Air Force colonel who recounted his harrowing rescue from behind enemy lines after being shot down over Iran. Lesley Stahl presented an investigation into middlemen who charge large sums to lobby for presidential pardons. A lighter segment profiled Sean McVay, the coach of the Los Angeles Rams...

And for those wondering how the new season would treat President Trump, the program referred to the war in Iran as “costly and unpopular,” and said he had pardoned “a string of unrepentant financial con men,” as well as “rioters” at the United States Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021...

One important verdict on the season premiere will have to wait. Last season, “60 Minutes” averaged 9.1 million Americans an episode, up 9 percent from the year before. Nielsen is expected to report Sunday’s ratings on Tuesday.

Weiss seems likely to use the John Roberts playbook: occasionally produce a minor "reasonable" piece sandwiched in between outrageous partisan stinkers to maintain an air of impartiality.
