They made good money on small budgets and proved that films made by black filmmakers could draw broadly, leading to bigger budgets and more serious films than just action/adventure.
They can be very devoted and affectionate to hoomans, at least if they consider you "their" hooman. See Virginia & Leonard Woolf's "Mitz the Marmoset". She saved them from Hitler and no, that's not hyperbole. Crazy!
oh joy, I've never met another person who appreciates Adrian Belew. Maybe my favorite track of his is "Complicated Potatoes", but everything I've heard has been solid.
BTW, if you have access to it: Mr. Del Toro put together a horror anthology series called "Cabinet of Curiosities" It is Netflix exclusive for now, as it is still in limbo. He gives free reign to modern horror writers and directors to do what they want, as long as it's classical horror and not jump-scare nonsense. Episode 7 - "The Viewing" might be the most perfect 70's sci-fi horror short ever made.
I liked "The Autopsy" with F. Murray Abrahams. Based on a Michael Shea story. I was very displeased with the Lovecraft adaptations. You'd think Del Toro would know better.
That one was okay with me, the performances had me right along with them. I feel like many episodes could have gone beyond the 40-50 minute formula, but I get how they were keeping them "pulpish"
Nice to see Vincenzo Natali give us another simple, claustrophobic nightmare too.
They are all good! I was a bit disappointed with ep 6: "Dreams in the Witch House"
I think it needed more time to flesh itself out, but that's the only one I have a problem with. Plus I love how Guillermo Del Toro opened with a Creepy/Eerie style camp tale, basically recreating a Steven King "Creepshow" story
I was thinking something more native, such as pawpaw. I used to have a tart cherry that I ate directly from. All that's left of that is some freezer jam.
I don't see another place to post this, forgive my ignorance. About last night's fatal accident.
What a tragedy. This is when we need Biden, who knew how to comfort, unlike Trump, who moved like lighting to blame the crash on someone else. Who would blame Trump for the crash, his worst enemies would know it wasn't his fault. But instead he blamed others and made sure everyone knew it.
Biden would come out and say something like, "Regarding yesterday's tragedy, our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their lives. There will be a full investigation, and any conclusions will be passed on as quickly as possible."
I did not know that DEI was flying planes and helicopters, both at the same time, while also directing air traffic. Thanks, Mr. Preznidet, for letting me know who was responsible for a mid-air collision, and that it had nothing to do with a troop of chaos monkeys taking over this country.
Joyce White Vance is liking what she's seeing in the federal workforce's resistance to the Orange One's regime, and commitment to their oath of office:
"There is a reason Trump is afraid of the federal bureaucracy, the career civil servants he wants to replace. They are powerful. They are knowledgeable. And although they often get a bad rap, in my experience—25 years of it—they are dedicated and mission driven. Tell doctors at CDC, federal prosecutors at DOJ, or scientists at the Department of Agriculture that they can’t do their job, and they will find a way to get it done. Tell the entire bureaucracy you want them to leave? You’ve summoned the sleeping giant."

Her kid showed her a reddit thread of "I'm gonna stand my ground" and "I'm up for the fight" posts after the bizzare "buyout" email fed employees were sent. It's rather uplifting, in all.
I have recently both called and emailed Hakeem Jeffries. Last night, I responded to his Bluesky post, that seemed he took some credit for the recession of The Memo. I asked his what he had specifically done to effect that outcome. My question never posted, I asked again, didn't post. This concerns me.
I am not liking this return, each morning, to dreading the news of the day.
Very glad to have Wonkette to help me snark and grumble and yell my way through it, but still, there just aren't enough puppies and kittens (and baby pygmy marmosets) in the world for this shit
I am a Christian - and old - and I'm not likely to stop being the former any time soon, and I was not happy with that tweet. It was singularly useless, considering the circumstances. He is not in a pulpit, he is not my (or anyone's AFAIK) spiritual advisor.
I agree with the sentiment, but not with him using it when he should be encouraging people by telling them what HE is going to DO about this Or what OTHER Democrats are going to do about this, This tweet in itself, was as helpful as a truckload of Republican thoughts and prayers.
I’m so angry at national Dems. How can you tell at me for four-plus years that That Man is a danger to our democracy and a fascist, and then roll over for him now? DO SOMETHING! DO ANYTHING! Obstruct! Throw sand in the gears! Get out there and tell us what you’re doing to prevent the worst excesses! STOP HIM! Or we need to find someone else who will.
Just an aside. Should be obligatory, perhap? Roughly twice as many will die today in automobile "accidents" as died in that jet collision. Just like every day. And auto-related fatalities have sharply increased in recent years, reversing a decades-long downward trend. Media? Crickets.
Or squirrels. I'm sorry, but our glorious media are a bunch of squirrel chasers.
Mark and Meta needs to be very careful. Social media is a two way street where things go both ways very easily. Wars have become more violent because both sides of a conflict uses social media to coordinate attacks on each other.
I got VERY upset listening to the RFKJR hearing yesterday and thinking how very very very concerned these fuckers are with children and their health and What Must Be Done and these are essentially the SAME GODDAMN FUCKING BASTARDS who will refuse to do even the tiniest skosh of ANYFUCKINGTHING to stop school shootings and what is the goddamn use of whining about "chronic illness" when those fit healthy kids might die from a classmate's brand new AR-15?
(Nevermind the pissing about how health is so much better in other countries but Medicare For All would be "unsustainable" and other countries won't buy our unregulated produce so we obviously have to unregulate it some more. STUPIDEST PEOPLE ON GOD'S GREY EARTH, I FUCKING SWEAR.)
On the "World" channel now, til 11am EST: "RESISTANCE: They Fought Back", on Jewish resistance during the Holocaust, in ghettos, camps, the forests, everywhere. 85 recorded events.

If I had a marmoset I would name it Alanis.
A little ironic, don't you think, but you oughta know!
that will be the name of my next D&D character!
Voldemort.
Aww, too cute.

That genetic engineering is out of control
They have done some serious research into fur color patterns and genetics in cats. We are a long ways from commercialization but one of these days there will be Coke cats and Pepsi pussies. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2021/09/cat-fur-color-patterns.html
I think Cardi B was initially going to go with Pepsi pussy for her stage name
I'm much more partial to Pygmy Pony.

I got a weird Ray Milland and Rosey Grier "The Thing With Two Heads" vibe for a second there.

Same. My first impression was of a freaky Pokémon.
Hee hee! Only you would go there, Me.
Really need to gif something from that at some point.
I had a black girlfriend in the early 70's and ended up seeing most of the "blaxploitation" films of that era.
More than a few of them were really good.
They made good money on small budgets and proved that films made by black filmmakers could draw broadly, leading to bigger budgets and more serious films than just action/adventure.
Those precious, tiny little hands look just like ours.
These wee primates absolutely fascinate and amaze me.
So cute!
𝘗𝘺𝘨𝘮𝘺 marmosets? We live in an age of wonder!
LOVE BABBY FINGER MONKEY. You can buy pretend ones, which is a hell of a lot better than kidnapping babby wild animals.
It’s cute until it goes for your face.

Yes, that is what I said. Chimpanzee minkey.
(See if anyone gets the reference.)

We saw The BEAT tour. I would not be surprised to find the Beacon Theatre still vibrating.
And it was just like I told yer?
A {heart} momur!
I'm not seeing cute, I am seeing something Guillermo Del Toro would want to kill with fire.

I've seen a couple of episodes (not that one). It's creepy!

''Baby pygmy''
That's, like, double small.
Primate Baby Björns!

And there I was last night demanding to know how many DEI hires were in the cockpits of those aircraft. So much for snark.
Regarding Charlotte Clymer’s letter to Jeffries: The only thing worse than than Shitler’s MAGA toadies are the gawdamn Vichy Democrats. 😾
VOTE THEM OUT – EVERY. FUCKING. ONE.
