Yes and no. A couple of Modern Times Saisons and a bottle of Le Terroir I've been saving. We get three points out of this one, I'm cracking it open!

Gah, I don't even know. He's a smart, attractive (as much as genetic relationship allows me to acknowledge such things) and kind guy. Who knows. I do know they sort of rushed into things (they got married when I was away at college, so I wasn't around for much of the courtship) and that he was euphemistically "not a great husband" when they first got married, and I think she holds that over his head.

I'm guessing smart runs in your family..."attractive" is relative, but I'm assuming probably that too. You obviously failed him...living it up at college and leaving him alone to make the most crucial decision of his life.

For all my grousing about my oldest brother, his wife is absolutely fucking awesome. A really good person and-with some of the infantile antics she's had to put up with-a tolerant one as well. Their two daughters are great. I've always been extremely fond of my oldest niece; an extremely shy, quiet child, as was Drublic Jr. She's had a bit of a rough go as an adult...not the most confident person in the world. A shitty marriage to a fairly decent man who also happened to be a raging alcoholic. She finally got out of that, recently came out as gay, and is happier now than I've ever seen her.

Were you telling me you had the Transatlantique Kriek from New Belgium? I saw it the other day but was already committed to my Duchesse experiment so I passed on it.

You know who was around? My other dipshit brother. They got married within a year of each other. I think I'll pin this on him. His wife is not a cruel person, but she is vapid and almost painfully insecure, and they've been married almost 15 years now, so I think it's time for her to get over it.

Not sure if you can find it out west, but I had a really good triple IPA today. Tre Kind from Three Heads Brewery. Not quite up the Waldos from Lagunitas, but pretty damn tasty.

Yeah...my brother's pulled some stunts that made we wonder why the fuck his wife stuck around...not unfaithful, but just dickheaded. But they're in it for the duration, and I really respect and admire them for that...and, as you hinted, the formula for that involves letting shit go at some point.

Never heard of it, but I'll look it up. Did you crack the Duchesse tonight? If so, I kind of hate you a little bit right now.

No, I didn't. I've got a beer plan for tomorrow involving that and some other beers that reminded me of it. I'm going to do some taste tests, etc. Basically, it's gonna be 90 and I made up an excuse to drink beer all day long.

90? Pfft. Lemme tell ya' about heat. Other than that, sounds like: Best. Sunday. Ever. Always good to have a beer plan. Let me know how it goes.

I'm watching the England-Scotland W.C. qualifier that I taped from earlier. JFC, it's like watching paint dry on a cold day...65 minutes in and I don't think there's been a shot on goal from either side. I'd be having more fun scrubbing the toilet with a toothbrush.

Yeah, I don't care to know about heat beyond that. We get the odd 100+ day, but I'm happy to have that be the exception.

I assume you've gotten to the end by now. That must have been a heartbreaking game to be at.

Holy shit! I wish I'd skipped the first 85 minutes and just watched the last 5. Crushing for the Scots...although one of their free kick goals came via a dive.

It's SO fucking hot here. I hate it. I can exist because it is fairly dry. I don't do well in heat, but if you had humidity, I just can't deal.

That last five minutes was pretty much both teams in a nutshell. Scotland putting in the work, punching above their weight and then managing to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory. England failing to contain "inferior" opposition and turning a poor result into a win simply by virtue of barely managing it.

I have actually never lived with an air conditioner and have no desire to break that streak. I may bitch about cold in the winter, but snow and 4 seasons are awesome, really.

Your analysis of the match is 100% spot on...despite the late excitement, an unsatisfying result.

I don't know where you live, but I hope it's some place high and cool...either that or you are either really resilient...or a bit tetched. I've never had an air conditioner either; I use a type of arcane technology we here in the desert call an "evaporative cooler". It's a simple concept that evolved from pre-technological times when people would hang wet cloth over windows; as it air blows through it and evaporates the water, it provides cooling. They actually work incredibly well when it is hot a dry. During hour humid monsoon season, July through August, they essentially don't work at all.

I went to college and lived in Flagstaff for about 8 years, which is up in the mountains at 7,000 ft. elevation. I loved it there....cold snowy winters, cool summers, wonderfully crisp, brisk, beautiful autumn. Far more a natural climate for me than Tucson.

Are you drinking yet?

We don't get too many truly intolerable days, though I'm probably well out of the mainstream with my distaste for AC. I'd rather be a little warm than have the AC cranked. Plus, it uses a hell of a lot of electricity. I've pretty much always lived in the northeast quadrant of the country, suppose I might have a different opinion if I lived in the swamps of Louisiana.

Had some errands to run, but have just cracked open the Duchesse. It's even better than I remembered it.

It's funny...it's not uncommon among old-school elderly Mexican-Americans around here to eschew air-conditioning, or any form of cooling; along with not drinking ice water when it's hot, they don't think it's "healthy". I know more than a few, including my lovely neighbor Bruni...she opens windows and uses room fans. I mean, unlike the mythical Northeast Quadrant, it's not uncommon for it be 110 plus here in the summer...you can roast a fucking chicken inside an uncooled house. But hey, she's in her nineties, walks a few miles a day, and I regularly give her a good-natured scolding when I see her working in her yard with a pick and shovel. To my knowledge, she never spends Sundays drinking beer all day though, so...that's one way the two of you differ.

I'm assuming you've moved on from the Duchesse by now...

I'm not quite that ascetic. My beer is properly chilled.

I've actually been switching between the Duchesse and beers. Started off with a tamarind ale that was very disappointing, then a lambic that as much better. And American, to boot. Now on to the last of the Duchesse, sadly. The others really didn't come close to it.

The only downside to drinking a really good beer that I can think of is that it runs out at some point. Starting off with the Duchesse set the bar pretty fucking high for anything to follow...though it was wise of you to save some for the end.

I can't believe I'm remarking on your Sunday beer-drinking strategery.
