I'm all for helping low income families and single parents getting aid. But paying someone to sit at home? No. Especially since the money would be taken away from programs that help low income/single parents keep their heads above water.
Helping low income families make ends meet is a better idea than giving it to stay-at-home moms. I'm also for giving support to caregivers who are sacrificing their economic well-being to help family
I know her mom, who is a molecular biologist, took a year off (I think it was a year) or a sabbatical from her scienc-y job to take care of at least one of their kids. Don't remember if it was the first kid or what.
I will give credit to the Washingtonian pitchers last night and today. They do keep things interesting. The starter gave up 3 runs in 3 innings. So he gone. Next guy got lit for a single. Ok. Next batter bunted to him, the pitcher. A sacrifice to move the runner to 2nd. But the pitcher threw the ball to the ball girl along the wall in foul territory. She wisely dodged it, letting it rattle down the wall. Runner saw and kept on a chuggin' his way to 3rd. Coach put up a stop sign, but he's pumping on all 8 cylinders and ran thru it. Finally jumped a belly flop on home plate, hoping to dodge the tag. He did as the throw came in high. Another pitcher gone. Next batter brought him in with a round tripper. Homies lead 7-2 in the 6th.
Contrary to GOOGLE AI (as I think of these days, asininity incorporated) which says no countries include women's unpaid work in the GDP - at least one country does include the unpaid work of women - Bangladesh. Further, multiple countries offer tax credits for unpaid work in the home. Plans like this would go against the GOP grain of only rewarding the wealthy or those "deserving" poor living in a fiction world of male dominance/female subservience.
Fact is, the traditional family has never existed beyond limited circumstances and was only a "reality" through fictional framing. For instance, to claim that homes on farms were traditional families is wildly inaccurate. Women and children on farms worked as hard, or harder, than the male farmer but never got the credit. Does anyone really think of slave women as "homemakers?" I was born in 1948. My mother and most of the mothers of my friends worked. It was just disparaged as "pin"money to avoid acknowledging that women were workers.
Both my dad's parents worked; apparently my grandma (who died before I was born) and her two sisters lived on the same street and did some child-care sharing. My mom's parents lived on a farm. She had 11 kids and worked every bit as hard as he did. I don't think any of them got pin money.
Where is the provision for the fact that for the majority of Americans, one income is not enough? How are you affording that house that your spouse doesn't contribute to? 9K a year? gimme a break....
