Right around Easter sounds like a very auspicious time.

Various reasons, but they all pretty much come down to having agendas that they want fulfilled and believing -- even contrary to all evidence shown/given them -- that he'll help them do it.

I'm not sure that entitled people worry. In 2008 we saw corrupt investment types walk away with many millions in bonuses while leaving taxpayers to pay for the losses. (That isn't even capitalism, BTW; you're supposed to gamble with your own money.)

I see this in Trump too. He really seems to believe that he can walk away from anything without being held accountable. After all, he's been taught that his whole life. So have many congresscritters, Supreme Court justices, etc. How many accused rapists do we have in office and on the Court right now? I've lost count.

Let's hope that's changing. Highly corrupt regimes tend to be followed by fairly draconian house cleaning. I vote we chip in and buy Elizabeth Warren a large broom.

If this is dragged out in the courts past 2020 that might be an excellent thing for the Dems. It would avoid a Senate acquittal before the election, while keeping the issue live and showing Trump defying the courts. Looks guilty to me.

Moscow Mitch has already said in essence that he would kill impeachment.

But he also said he'd have to have a trial. Also, he's watching the polls closely. Republican support for impeachment is up 28%.

The risk there is that the public becomes "fatigued" and fox news will turn him into too much of a martyr.

Possibly, but that isn't what happened with Nixon. The constant drip of scandals brought him down slightly. Then the tapes pulled the trigger. Nancy Pelosi seems to think that the Ukraine deal is the trigger. I hope she's right.

And the courts are not being kind to Trump, mostly because they sort of believe in the law.

As for FOX, their viewers will always see Trump as a victim. I don't think FOX repeating that is going to affect Dems or even Independents too much. Also, FOX itself may give up on him as tarnished goods. FOX is all about making money and Rupert Murdoch's sons don't share his political beliefs.

It is impossible to predict what will happen in politics, but this is promising. And if it does work out then Nancy Pelosi's detractors owe her not just an apology, but a lot of praise for choosing the right moment to act.

Good point of view. You have some good points. As devil's advocate I would only say that I think people had longer attention spans when Nixon was around (no cable, no internet, public schools were better.....). I am constantly dismayed at the dumbing down of American.

I'm honestly not sure about whether people had better attention spans in the past. I'm afraid that maybe I just didn't notice the dumb. Voters elected Richard Nixon. While not as horrendous as Trump, he was pretty bad. One thing about the new media is that we hear a lot of information that would have been suppressed by the news media in the good old days. We may have gone too far in the other direction, but it was much easier to do a -back then.

There were some pretty awful moments in our history, a lot of them racist: Internment of Japanese citizens; lynchings ignored by the police because the victim was black; really sordid political deals.

What we do have is a more polarized country. Of course I say that as a white person who was just unaware of what minorities went through decades ago since I wasn't one and I lived in California. Maybe it's good that we have a lot more media coverage.

Also, if coverage of the impeachment continues for the next year then it may seep into public consciousness. A lot of people change their opinion if there's a trend that way.

Isaac Chotiner, I forget which magazine. Something like New York Magazine. Somebody just mentioned that today with the reporters name.

The current numbers are interesting, but it's the trend that should cause Trumpster trouser-wetting time.

Anyone out there still think Pelosi shouldn't have waited to do impeachment at just the right time? There were issues before, but they tended to be complex and too many voters don't get complex. Pressuring a foreign president to investigate a political rival is both colorful and easy to understand.

I'm not convinced the Senate won't be corrupt, especially since Moscow Mitch has already decided the trial outcome, but this issue has great legs.
