You know, i remember reading in a book talking about Bill Watterson's creative procecess, he mused about the Republican party stating that the appeal might be because deep within us (and for some people, not quite so deep) is a bratty whiny six year-old who always wants his way.

Oh wait did I say "Republican party"? I meant "Calvin and Hobbes." Boy however could i have made a mistake like that?

Seriously and all snark off, I think that Clifford Brown saved me because once I heard him (alas posthumously on records) there no way I could defend any racist bullshit I grew up with, hard as I tried. Art Tatum just confirmed it. And Coltrane blew it completely out of the water.

It's the best age at which not to give a kid a boxed set of Ayn Rand novels.
