Who in the hell feels airplanes are safer when it comes to communicable diseases?! You're rebreathing everyone else's air, poorly filtered, and if anyone's sick, pretty much everyone ends up sick. Is there anyone who's ever flown on a commercial flight who has never gotten a cold or flu within 48 hrs?
West Australia is slowly and cautiously opening up. Over 95% of the population 12 and over is double -vaxxed. We have massive employment and access restrictions on the unvaxxed, indoor mask mandates and mandatory check in at all businesses.
Our total Covid death toll has just ticked into double figures.
Yah here in our eastern Ontario town, I have not seen one person (grocery, gas station, dollar store, pharmacy) without a mask on . We all realize we can now choose to ditch our masks, but nobody seems to think it's a good idea yet.
A "miracle" a decade in the making, the Gates Foundation has been funding development of RNA vaccines for most of that time. Bill Gates points out that we were incredibly lucky that they were in the final stages of development in 2019, and the massive influx of funding was able to push them over the top.
When the next wave starts (probably very soon), the US is going to be hit HARD, but they will be unable to do anything about it. They won't even know how many cases there are since they're also doing away with case reporting. American "thinking" at its best: if people can't report a problem, it ceases to exist.
All we can do is protect ourselves the best we can and wait for the idiots to kill themselves. Eventually we'll lose enough idiots that they can no longer set policy.
And some brilliant minds, as well. And other funders besides Gates. Not to mention the incredible genetic disease research that has been under way since the human genome was sequenced.
So, to be that person but planes are actually pretty safe because of their filtration systems, but only when it's on. The riskiest time for exposure is boarding and disembarkation and the whole airport itself, which is when the filtration system isn't on.

Yep… not even close. It’s likely here to stay.
I need a T-Shirt when I run in the morning, “Wear a Fucking Mask!”

I quite enjoy knowing that food workers are wearing masks. Prob should be mandatory in medical facilities and senior homes too.
