Sad day for MN. Sen.Melissa Hortman and her husband truly served their constituencies. Sen.Hoffmans wife shielded her daughter, trying to save her life, and was shot 17 times. A heroine. Apparently the two are still in stable but critical condition. Vance Boelter looks like Mr.Rogers ( which goes to show you that looks can be very deceiving ) & was an ordained something - minister ? For an evangelical church. Seems Boelters God was a God of hate, guns, and violence. He planned his assassinations meticulously. He must've gained access to their homes, broken in. Just chilling. My heart goes out the Sen.Hortman's and Sen.Hoffmans families. They must be so shaken and heartbroken from this mindless, senseless, delusional persons actions.
Oh man, Rebecca. All I can say is stay safe everyone. It's fucking open season. I've been having a little bit of an existential crisis while my husband is putting on his signature stoicism and is talking about traveling somewhere...
What, exactly, will killing all of us get them? All the money and stuff we leave behind? The jobs we don't need anymore? Us being no longer around to force trans their kids? What? Someone from the other side, explain it to me like I'm five.
I'm not from the other side but I try to understand. It makes my head and heart hurt deeply to try and understand where they are coming from. That said what I think is the other side is behaving like chimpanzees. This is how many humans and their ancestors have acted for many, many generations and now they are in power, globally because acting like a chimp terrorizes and gets others to cow-tow. We can not expect more than chimp behavior from them. We need to only stop putting them in power, dealing with them, and provide them with their own territory where they can do whatever they want among their own, in say Africa. We can go on our own way to re-creating an egalitarian culture that is pre-dominant in many of our DNA.
Reports claim that organizers canceled all the No Kings rallies throughout Minnesota. Not true.
The local organizer of the No Kings rally in my area emailed those who had signed up this morning. He wrote that he had spoken to the Senior Council for Indivisible, one of the national organizations who sponsored today's rallies. Together they decided this was an isolated incident, and the the rallies would go on with additional police presence.
The No Kings Rally in St. Paul, Minnesota's capitol city, drew 25,000+ individuals. Some estimates say 80,000.
Taps just played (I'm outdoors on my porch) following a three gun salute here in my small northern California town. The Veterans Hall is nearby. No Kings assembly ended three hours ago. I don't recall any such occurrence to celebrate Flag Day.
10k-20k is the official estimate. That includes the red-hatted imbeciles and the clueless apathetics who only know that they like a parade (about a 50-50 mix from what I've seen of it.)
Compare that to 5-6 million for the No Kings protests.
I live in Saint Paul, MN. I'm still stunned by both the assassination of Democrat Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband. I didn't know her, but my brother and she were old friends. He's devastated.
But Becca's correct. We said FUCK THAT AND FUCK YOU TRUMP! The No Kings at the capitol, which is the one I attended, was huge-- not just in turnout, but in defiance to those who'd prefer to put us down. I'm sad and proud. But ALL the Minnesota No Kings protests and marches took place as planned. CNN also misreported that, stating that Minnesota No Kings event were cancelled, this implying all of them. Only one was cancelled, and that because the city in which Rep. Hortman lived was in lockdown.
I was so happy to see the turnout here. I work Saturdays so I always miss the good stuff.
One of the bitter MAGAts in the local comments section said "Yeah well we did our marching in November when we went to the polls". I guess that's what they're going with, bless their hearts. They have nothing else.
It mainly puts the brakes on any party line legislation until a replacement is elected/appointed (I don't Minnesota election law) but the GOP will jave to tread lightly if they don't want to get destroyed in the next election.

Not I

My eye hasn't stopped twitching in a week.
If I believed in God I would be angry with him for not stopping this horrifying madness.

So far the legacy press has under reported the No Kings protests. Of course.
Of course
We're hurting here in MN, but that won't stop us from fighting
To quote the great Zodiac Motherfucker on the No Kings protest:
“ WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIT? | THOUGHT WE WERE BURNING SHIT DOWN. THIS IS LIKE A FUCKING PHISH CONCERT”
If they're hiding their faces and identities, they're terrorists.

Anyone?
It’s about the death of the flag I guess. And decency.
Perhaps. Pretty bold for a red town. We can only hope. Thanks
Has anyone heard anything about the attendance numbers for Trump's fascist parade? The ones for no kings was fucking huge. Record-breaking.

Marched right off a cliff, like the lemmings they are.
The proven rapist Trump:
"such horrific violence will not be tolerated,"
It will only be pardoned.
By tomorrow he will be TACO praising the MAGA
Her death gave republicans control of the state house.
This was a decapitation strike by a MAGA. Arm up ya’ll IF YOU CAN.

But we are out of session & there will be a special election well in advance of the next one.
So, whatever plans they had to shift the balance of power didn't work because they didn't think things through.
Tell me we're dealing with Republicans without saying they're Republicans.
Right you are as usual.
