The moment Nathan Bedford Forrest was lifted from his place of honor and then removed from it. Hi y'all, Memphis Wonkette here! When news broke early Wednesday evening that the Memphis City Council had just voted unanimously to remove the two nasty Confederate traitor loser statues sitting in two of our city parks (one of Nathan Bedford Forrest, which is also his grave site, and the other of Jefferson Davis, whose dumb bones are nowhere nearby), the immediate collective reaction was, "Wait huh? How they do that?"
Seeing as Forrest massacred a bunch of union soldiers from Boston, I'm going with Charles Pierce's suggestion. Put it in Boston and let any passerby so inclined hit it with a sledge hammer.
Well, I can sure understand why those Surrounding Areans would be scared to set foot in the city. One of my vivid memories of Memphis was the group of middle-aged Black ladies who surrounded me on the street to ask if they could help me enjoy the sites, because the tourist map I was looking at was a giveaway that I was lost. They called me darlin', too.
From the link to the newspaper, my fave line was from the hick leader of the state lege who said the city had violated the intent of the state law. Who, other than a certified repub would know more about violating the intent of any law.
I think I'm going to side with Heinrich Heine. Forest is long dead. Destroying art isn't isn't going to change who he was or the tragic reality of historical events. So what is the purpose of smashing art or burning books?
I wonder though if that area code wasn't handed out later when clicks were irrelevant? When I was a wee lad in VA, the whole state was 703. Not until much later were the 540, the 434, and the 757 etc handed out. Maybe all of Tennessee was one code, and not the 901, originally also too? Or do the 0 and the 1 in the second and third positions render that scenario unlikely?

And just to be clear...the note above is a belated thank you to those lovely (and apparently official) guides.

A kilt has two flaps at the front which overlap, you push one to each side rather than hitch them up, and you move the sporran onto your hip.
I think that is a great idea.
Traitor Clement Laird Vanlandigham libelz!(Ohio copperhead, 1860's- exiled by the Lincoln admin.)
Why do they hate the free market??
excepting the dry counties- including Moore county (home of Jack Daniels)

Democrats removing statues of Democrat heroes? Would you imagine that !!
They should have left the horse, it didn’t do anything wrong.

This is why you never let the Brits name anything. Except Lord Buckethead - he can do whatever the hell he wants as far as I'm concerned.
Buckethead for God Emperor in 2020!-Fuck it, vote for the bucket!
It's possible you win this round.
