'It sounds like he has spent just absolute shitloads of money to get close to Trump, and yet in every text he spells Mar-a-Lago like “MarLago.” Dumb.'
*** *** ***
The actual spelling should be "Lugar Malo."
Anthony Pratt may only be playing dumb, just as Trump plays dumb. This is an important part of the Trumpian method of deceiving people. You play dumb in order to win their trust and put them off guard. If you can make people believe you're dumb, they may assume that you're not smart enough to deceive them. It works for Columbo, and it works for Trump, too. Indeed, it works better for him, because he isn't interested in solving crimes, only in committing them, which is a lot easier.
In fact, although Trump's willingness to share classified information with Pratt makes him seem dumber than Pratt, I think Pratt may be dumber than Trump. First of all, Pratt had to pay a lot of money for the information that he got from Trump. Secondly, what has Pratt gained from knowing this information? I suppose he has bought himself some notoriety and media exposure. Was it worth it? Actually, for a conceited billionaire like Pratt with endless boredom and money to burn, maybe it WAS worth it. On the other hand, Trump got a significant amount of Pratt's money. So who is the bigger idiot, really?
There may have been some other guests at Lugar Malo who made much more profitable (and destructive) use of the information that Trump gave them than Pratt has done. We may never find out who they are, but it might help to turn our attention to recent visitors who acted conspicuously stupid.
You want an important billionaire wasting precious time with hyphens? It's pretty clear Pratt is still flattering Trump. We are fighting to stay a democracy with a real judicial system and Peatt thi ks we will kose.
Trump has long rejected any standard of normalcy for American presidents. He has by now arguably done things worse than his infamous "shoot somebody on 5th. Avenue" hypothetical posits and got away with it. So far, anyway -- I think some of his criminal trials will at last bring him down. The only thing that's even coming close to working in the people's and the republic's favor is our judicial system. Even with its creakiness and manifest two-tier dispensations of "justice" -- rich folk can basically admit to trying to damage or overthrow the republic and so long as they admit they've been bad and tattle on others, they get a ludicrously tiny fine and have to talk to a parole officer on occasion, along with maybe some pro bono lawyer-work -- it still shows some capacity for objectivity and adherence to law. That's more than we can say for a lot of cowardly, grasping, venal Republican politicians.
It’s embarrassing for America that a large minority of people thought Trump would be a good idea in power. But people believe weird things. More perplexing is that our Federal government has no protection from someone as dangerous and incompetent as he is having access to that power. He leaks intel to Russians in the Oval Office to impress them. He leaks intel to wealthy people to impress them. He leaked intel in his office to impress people when he knew it was classified. True, he’s been indicted for this and lots of things, which is encouraging. Today he claimed “I wasn’t indicted,” and that “us and U.S. are spelled the same. I just realized this.” He also told his supporters, at a rally, mind you, not to “worry” about voting. He encouraged them to watch the vote counting, you see. But they need not worry about voting themselves. It’s a strategy that makes sense, actually. He’s going to declare victory no matter what, and perhaps if he loses in a historic landslide, it will only serve his Big Lie II all the more. Who knows. The man is not well.
Even a very small percentage of the public being gullible and/or vicious enough to credit anything Trump says would be a catastrophe, but that 40+% of them do is doubleplus catastrophic. How do we maintain a democratic form of government with a populace that ignorant and misguided? All one has to do is press their hot buttons and they're fired up for fascism, as if that would solve anybody's problems. And with Trump in the 2024 race, as you indicate, there's no chance that the election will come off normally. He only accepts elections if he wins, no matter the vote count. If he loses (as I believe he will), it's even money that he will shark up some violence and either further damage the republic or smash it altogether.
I actually think capitalism should come with more high-end rules. Imagine how much better America would be if multimillionaires paid 50% tax and billionaires 90% tax. Because if you are worth a billion dollars, 10% of that is plenty. Many of the richest people belong to a philanthropic club where they donate 1/2 their wealth to causes. It’s great, and the Qanon weirdos should read about how much Bill Gates has given back. If we had more of that, we could end poverty here.
I agree with your sentiments but the Qnuts know Gates donates $$ and accordingly have decided he’s putting microchips in the vaccines he’s funded. They see that as part of the PLAN, it’s why TFG has been sent as our Jesus to save us!
The way I like to think of it is, when you're poor, the difference between $100 and $200 is the difference between making rent or eating every day this month. When you're middle class, that might be the difference between cooking at home, or taking the family out to Outback.
After a while, all your needs are met, and more money becomes a way, not to buy more food, but better food. Not buying a car, but buying a fancier car. The luxury of not having to worry whether you can afford that latte or that AAA video game.
And at the top, money becomes a way to keep score. All of your needs are met, you can afford the best of everything, and dollars are just points in the game of Who's the Best Rich Bastard?
And when you're at the top of the game, you play by the advanced rules. It's easy to make $100M when you have $1B gathering interest. But are you good enough to make $100M when 50% or 90% of your last dollar is taxed?
Some good points there. I consider myself wealthy not by the standards of millionaires or billionaires, because I’m neither. But I’m wealthy because I have assets and access to money when I need it, and my bills are paid (usually), food is in the cupboard and the house is warm. I am thankful and grateful for that, and I look for ways to give back and help others. Because I know SO many people just want to live, eat, afford clothes and make the rent. Add childcare into that, healthcare, insurance, transportation, work. It’s daunting. I lived many years paycheck to paycheck but even then I had support from my family if I had an emergency. I’ll never be a millionaire with no financial concerns, but I also never feel true economic anxiety or worry about my next meal. For that I remind myself to be grateful every day, and do my part to help others live better lives.
Donations are tax deductible. If they have 4 billions and they donate 2 billions, they can then take loans worth 40 billions, invest those 40 billions and get at least 5% profit for an income of at least 2 billion and then not pay any taxes on that. So they end up still having 4 billions but now they have a 2 billion income each year. So the next year they can donate another 2 billion, leverage the previous year's investments for another loan, and keep on not paying taxes.
$100,000 will buy you Belinda Carlisle for a private event. She will sing 8 or so songs, her hits. I found this out when I read her autobiography, which was decent. I wondered if she had a website with personal mail. I wanted to send a message that I enjoyed her book. I stumbled on a website where you can hire famous people for speaking engagements, music events, etc. There’s even a website where you can hire a celebrity to record a 1-min video message with a personal message to someone. Like having Chevy Chase wish your wife happy birthday for $500. That kind of thing!
That’s really a great idea but honestly, just settling for the stupid crap billionaires do with their money already, it would be better spent on the blood of 19 year olds to prolong their sad existence or building a super yacht or renting out the Taj Mahal to host a party. Buy a school a new building you design yourself as an amateur architect. Buy a social media company to fail at. See? Any of those don’t involve having Roodles at your party or ecccchhh, calling you up for the next two years on drunken butt dials.
"Mr. Pratt also describes on the recording how Mr. Trump asked his wife, Melania, to strut around Mar-a-Lago in her bikini “so all the other guys could get a look at what they were missing.”"
"Check out the set of tits on my wife" *elbow nudge a la Paulie Walnuts* "Hah? Hah? Even an old shit like me could get a boner looking at that."
Exactly what we've all come to expect from this low class pig.
"Rudy Giuliani, and says one time he paid Rudy like a million bucks to “come to his birthday party as a celebrity guest,” per the Times."
`
With so much other fodder for ridicule, this gets overlooked -- but there is no power on earth that could convince me that anybody would pay money to go visit Rudy Giuliani.
Did he mean Rudy offered him a million bucks to attend?

Well, paying Roodles the Clown any amount of money to come to a party is, indeed, some very weird shit.
"Red headed weirdo"? From YOU? The strangest man on Earth even when Jerry Lewis was alive?
I just realized that "us" is in the word "platypus."
And I just realized that "uck" is in "duck." And "fuck."
This could open up a whole new career for me as a letters-recognizer.
Compared with Trump, Aldrich Ames is chopped liver.
If he's a red-haired weirdo, why tell him lots of TOP SECRET SHIT?
Also, he wasted no time once that gag order was lifting, did he?

I could think of a billion better things for my billionaire birthday than Rudy Giuliani. Money is truly wasted on the rich.

(Checks bank account) Dang! Fresh out of $100,000 bills!
Like, just on a lark, use a million bucks to help out 1000 orphans. Or maybe just one really cool one.
I feel like with a million bucks you can do that AND buy your favorite politician!
And do two chicks at the same time, according to Diedrich Bader's character in Office Space.
Well that just goes without saying.

TFG is so fucking perfect, it's gotta be everyfuckingbody else's fault. I mean, he probably never even met the guy.
Fuck the Houston Astros
Fuck Ted Cruz
I see he's upset with Mags once again. Maybe this week he'll evict her from the bungalow she stays in at Mar-el-Crapo.
Ta, Evan. That he ever was selected in the first place is loathsome.
