South Carolina Congressdude: Gun Background Checks Will Rwanda Us To Death

We must admit we are impressed. In a media environment where Everything Is Just Like Hitler, Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-South Carolina Like That's A Surprise) proves once again that he is a master of analogy. Seeking a worst-case scenario for expanding background checks to cover gun shows and other private sales, he didn't simply grab the first Nazi analogy at hand. No, in seeking a new slippery slope, Duncan went the extra mile, reached for the sky, fucked that chicken, and went off the deep end:  According to Rep. Duncan, expanding a system that is already in place  for gun sales at licensed dealers would ultimately set the stage for the systematic murder of all gun owners, because Rwanda also kept records on people. We have to hand it to Rep. Duncan -- as long as we're allowed to wear gloves -- he appears to have invented Godwin's Stepbrother's Law, and then violated it. Still, it's nice to see someone who's willing to think outside the gas chamber.

In a Facebook post Thursday, Duncan warned about the danger inherent in the government knowing where people live and what they own:

The 2nd Amendment is (or should be) equal to the 1st Amendment and the 4th Amendment and all of the others. Ask yourselves why it is under attack? Ask yourselves about a National gun registry database and how that might be used and why it is so wanted by progressives.

Read about the Rwandan genocide, the Hutu and Tutsi tribes. Read that all Tutsi tribe members were required to register their address with the Hutu government and that this database was used to locate Tutsi for slaughter at the hands of the Hutu. (Since the government had the names and addresses of nearly all Tutsis living in Rwanda (remember, each Rwandan had an identity card that labeled them Tutsi, Hutu, or Twa) the killers could go door to door, slaughtering the Tutsis.

Not with firearms, mind you, but with machetes.

I use this example to warn that national databases can be used with evil consequences.

Got it. Databases are inevitably the first step toward ethnic cleansing. Time to shut down the DMV, too! It is good to know that "Gun Owner" is now an ethnicity, too! And as we learned from the first episode of Battlestar Galactica, having a system of networked computers leaves us vulnerable to Cylon infiltration and attack.

The best part of the post, of course, is that immediately after warning us of this imminent slaughter of law-abiding Patriots, Duncan adds,

Preying on the fears of the American citizenry is not good governance.

Good to know.
