You can see how she bulks up as he approaches..
Yet another example of a cop behaving badly has been caught on video, this time at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, South Carolina.Sheriff's deputy and school resource officer Ben Fieldswas recorded, by two different students, pulling a high school girl from her desk, body-slamming her to the floor, and then dragging her to the front of the classroom, where he pinned her down and handcuffed her.
[contextly_sidebar id="9R2gl6C7R7MLqICUkdDugLzLqnBxREu6"]But don't worry, this isn't yet another example of excessive force because for one thing, the girl was "being disruptive" and had refused to leave the classroom after being told to do so by both the teacher and the school's assistant principal. And then she defied Deputy Fields, too! Plus, she wasn't shot to death or even Tased, so what's the big deal?
She failed to obey, so as our law-n-order types say, anything that happened after that is on her, including a 200-pound cop. That's pretty much automatic for black teenagers who get mouthy, isn't it?
It's worth noting how the Richland County Sheriff's Office has changed its tone on the videos as the story has received national attention. In an early statement Monday, Sheriff Leon Lott described the incident thusly:
The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions when she again refused ... The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested.
By Tuesday morning, Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson was explaining that Sheriff Lott had been out of town at the time of the incident, and that he was "very disturbed" by the videos. Deputy Fields has been placed on administrative leave from the school while the sheriff's office investigates, and Wilson added that Sheriff Lott has called in the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate the arrest. (See Update at end of story) It's almost as if "she resisted and was arrested" didn't quite cut it, for some reason.
It's unclear exactly what happened in the math class before Deputy Fields showed up, since both videos only begin in the middle of things, giving the usual YouTube Police Experts plenty of opportunity to speculate about how the unidentified girl, either a junior or a senior, must certainly have been chanting ISIS slogans or threatening grievous bodily harm to everyone in the class. Here, if you want to see a cop fling a teenaged girl out of her desk like a sack of flour, are the videos, from slightly different angles. Let us Jim Garrison them together!
