As a doctor, let me assure that it won't just be primary care doctors who have to leave because they are being pulled into this along with ob-gyns.
It will be radiologists (like me) who do the ultrasounds that find the fetal issues that warrant termination and it will be cardiologists and pulmonologists and nephrologists and endocrinologists and neurologists who find the maternal conditions that make continuation of pregnancy dangerous...and that's just off the top of my head.
BTW - this year's Match already showed that the next generation of doctors is avoiding entry into these states.
Medical care in these states will be reduced to handing a patient a copy of the Merck manual and a butter knife...
Yeah...but show me the results of elections starting in 2024 in which these states turn out the forced birthers instead of just complaining about this issue while still being predictable lever pullers on God-gays-and-guns.
Gerrymandering does not help in a statewide election and even if you are in a gerrymandered district you can still vote the other way.
Elections really do have consequences and the women of red states and the men of red states who respect women have to decide what really matters to them and take some actual action.
Most women who want/need an abortion are going to want to do the shopping spree and theater stuff beforehand, because while an abortion is safe and WAY easier than birth, it still involves cramping and bleeding and I would not really recommend anything other than some OTC pain medication and a bed/sofa.
Hearing about women who have to travel for much later-term abortions and then get back quickly - I would not be willing to get on a plane given the bleeding situation.
As a structural engineer (ret), my opinion on this matter is simply drawn from the news and has little merit. Thanks for the rather frightening elucidation. However, I think your "Merck manual and a butter knife " prediction might be a bit pessimistic. The situation might stabilize with barbers and midwives.
(Georgia and Florida can't stop women from leaving the state ... yet.)This gives me horrible images of enslaved people trying to flee to freedom in the dead of night while the dogs and men with guns are out after them. Except pregnant women.
Assuming what the meme-author actually meant was "cis perisex men," the first example that springs to mind would be the laws that the government can lock you up in shadow jail if they suspect you attempted to kill yourself or that you might possibly kill yourself in the future.
The second thing that comes to mind would be controlled substance laws.
My one pro-life friend, Tracy, lives in SC. She grew up in a fairly liberal NY household but has become more and more conservative since moving to Charleston, SC. She is 100% anti-choice now. She says it is because her BFF had an abortion (after pre-natal testing showed some sort of anomaly) and has regretted the decision ever since.
Tracy has a 17 year old daughter. I keep wondering how she'd feel if her daughter got knocked up at this point. Would she want the girl to be forced to be an incubator for the state of South Carolina?
But that means lots of good people in those places who can't afford to move will also suffer and die. Wanderer is a person who lives in Florida, Vagenda and Pee is in South Carolina. We can't write off our fellow Americans just because they live somewhere they're outnumbered and/or gerrymandered.
Nikki Haley proves once and for all that she is an invertebrate

States' rights, much?

Actually. Georgia has 4 solidly blue cities - Atlanta, Athens, Savannah and Albany. Total population ~5M.

Crawdads are just small lobsters. Shrimp with claws.

If you were an elected politician or judge you could no doubt get a wealthy friend to pick up the tab.
But, on principle, you're okay with the burning, yes?
Well, abortion bans affect some men.
