And in only 2 years.

Nobody should have to slog through the snow and sit around a wood stove in a general store on the Canadian border jawing with old white people to get noticed that they are running for president.

Speaking as a decades-long Iowan: halle-fucking-lujah. Get that "first" stuff out of my state and give us a goddamned primary.

The "first-in-the-nation primary" has been a baked-in feature of NH politics for about a zillion years (and it's a big business for the politicos and advertisers), and as I understand it is even enshrined in State law -- if some other state declares an earlier one, NH just moves theirs earlier, or is supposed to.

I suppose it could all end up with holding the NH primary the weekend after the previous presidential election.

Agree. WA (used to?) hold caucuses and they're terribly anti-democratic and a gigantic PITA. I'd much prefer a ranked choice primary.

All done on the same 'day' like the general election...the downstream primary states get SO ripped off...usually the candidate is pretty much decided before it gets to the last heat of states. SO fucking undemocratic

As a CA voter I'll point out that this is insane. Trying to air commercials in the 3 expensive big markets (plus Sacramento, I guess?) would mean that only well funded known candidates would ever get a chance. Yes we're most like the whole nation because we're 10-15% of the nation but shit howdy would this be a bad idea.

Iowa and NH have to go and getting less old and white places on the calendar is a great idea but make it happen in places where the Newbies can compete. That isn't CA
