While this is pretty heartless, it's not quite as bad as it's being made out to be. The dick who suggested women can always quit, Is still very much a dick.

There is still the federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act that acts as a backstop here. The federal law also requires reasonable accommodations for pregnant women:

If an employee is temporarily unable to perform her job due to pregnancy, the employer must treat her the same as any other temporarily disabled employee; for example, by providing light duty, modified tasks, alternative assignments, disability leave, or leave without pay.

My guess is that the law was intended to provide something more than the minimum federal requirements and the legislative people-with-penises "thought" that was unnecessary. Which is still a dick move, but not quite as dickish as is being portrayed.

What is most maddening that a 30-second Google search would have turned up exactly what you're talking about, just to check to make sure that they can actually pull this off legally, and these assclowns could thusly stop wasting South Dakota's time and money on bullshit legislation. It's like D students have taken over the country.
