Which goes back to no or abstince-only sex ed in schools and cuts to or lack of screening places and education programs for communities. Those things have been proven time and again to work, but the right would rather everyone who dares have sex outside of a heterosexual marriage (and women even in those marriages who dare to want sex for enjoyment rather than procreation!) be punished.

Once again, and as always, the cruelty is the point.

In Virginia it's been a rule that you have to report for over 50 years now. If the increase keeps up they may have to bring back the pre marriage blood test. That was still a thing when I was little and I thought I might have to get it done when me n the mister got married.

They also say that some if these STD's are being counted in newborns who had it passed to them. That's pretty sad.

Absolutely cruelty is the point. Luckily (sadly) STD's don't know which God you believe in and is an equal opportunity offender. Your preachers daughter can get syphilis and pregnant regardless.

Sigh...This country is so afraid of sexual education. Statistics show that kids who are aware from a scientific point of view of what sex is and does are more likely to take precautions and even delay sex. But noooo..We'd rather tell them that total abstinence is the only way or give them some mumbo jumbo about the petals of their flower falling off every time they do have sex and even obfuscating what genitals even are. Mind blowing.

"A POX ON THY HOUSE!" becomes a lot more fun when it can be literal.

I second that.

You know, my kids grew up in a pretty permissive household and were even exposed to nekkid pagan hippie camp so they knew quite well what grownup bodies looked like. Amazingly enough, both of them held onto their chastity longer than their profligate ma managed to, and as yet, neither of them has had to deal with an unwanted pregnancy (when most of my pals with kids are already grandparents). Satan must've been napping.

• Decreased condom use among vulnerable groups, including young people and gay and bisexual men• Cuts to STD programs at the state and local level -- in recent years, more than half of local programs have experienced budget cuts, resulting in clinic closures, reduced screening, staff loss, and reduced patient follow-up and linkage to care services

I'm just spitballing here, because I'm totally the kind of person that knows exactly what the hell the verb "spitball" is supposed to mean, but might there be a small chance that these two phenomena might be a teensy, weensy bit related?

This has to be one of the most remarkable routines in the history of dance. Jumps into splits down a staircase? Olympic-level athleticism. Nothing compares.
