Stephen Miller And Bob Goodlatte Suck, According To Their Families

There's one in every family.

Every happy family is unhappy in its own way -- although the families of Stephen Miller and Bob Goodlatte have a bit in common on that front this week!

Bobby Goodlatte, the son of retiring Republican Virginia Congressman Bob Goodlatte -- seen most recently on Wonkette making an absolute ass of himself during the House Judiciary and Oversight Committee's joint interrogations of just-now-fired FBI agent Peter Strzok -- announced yesterday on Twitter that he donated the maximum amount to the Jennifer Lewis, the Democrat running for his father's seat. Though he didn't outright say anything negative about his father, the fact that he is giving money to a Democrat running for his father's soon-to-be-vacated seat -- and one who supports a $15 minimum wage and Medicare For All at that -- is pretty freaking badass.

Coming in a hell of a lot harsher than Bobby Better-latte is David Glosser, the uncle of White House senior advisor and all around horrible person Stephen Miller, who wrote a searing essay for Politico on his nephew's hypocrisy on immigration. Telling the story of how his own family came to America as refugees, Glosser explains how they benefited from the "chain migration" Trump and Miller so loathe:

I shudder at the thought of what would have become of the Glossers had the same policies Stephen so coolly espouses—the travel ban, the radical decrease in refugees, the separation of children from their parents, and even talk of limiting citizenship for legal immigrants—been in effect when Wolf-Leib made his desperate bid for freedom. The Glossers came to the U.S. just a few years before the fear and prejudice of the "America First" nativists of the day closed U.S. borders to Jewish refugees. Had Wolf-Leib waited, his family would likely have been murdered by the Nazis along with all but seven of the 2,000 Jews who remained in Antopol. I would encourage Stephen to ask himself if the chanting, torch-bearing Nazis of Charlottesville, whose support his boss seems to court so cavalierly, do not envision a similar fate for him.

The sickest burn, however, comes in Glosser's description of the hardships faced by a young man he met while volunteering as a neuropsychologist for the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the same organization that had helped his own family when they came over here. "Joseph" (not his real name) was a Eritrean refugee who was conscripted into the military at 14, and later brutally tortured and imprisoned before finally escaping.

Before Donald Trump had started his political ascent promulgating the false story that Barack Obama was a foreign-born Muslim, while my nephew, Stephen, was famouslyrecovering from the hardships of his high school cafeteriain Santa Monica, Joseph was a child on his own in Sudan in fear of being deported back to Eritrea to face execution for desertion.

This is a reference to the fact that Young Master Miller, while running for president of his high school, was booed off the stage for bitching about having to clean up his own trash in the cafeteria when he would far prefer that the janitors clean up after him instead.

"I will say and I will do things, that no one else in their right mind would do," he says later in the speech.

Still later, Miller announced to the crowd, his voice rising, "Am I the only one who is sick and tired of being told to pick up my trash when we have plenty of janitors who are paid to do it for us?!"

Eventually, Miller can be seen on the video laughing as he is pushed off the stage, as his classmates continued to boo.

What a charming person.

Clearly, it is especially painful for Dr. Glosser to know what his own family went through and to then see his nephew trying to hurt people who are just like them. How could it not be? Stephen Miller would not even exist today if the statutes he would like to see enacted had been enacted at the time his family came over here. Shit, I wouldn't exist either. Pretty much none of us would. It's hard to understand how anyone could know their own history and yet lack any empathy at all for immigrants and refugees coming over here today. Then again, if people like Stephen Miller weren't hypocrites, or had a shred of empathy in their shriveled little hearts, we wouldn't have this problem to begin with, because Donald Trump wouldn't even be president.

We all have repulsive relatives. There's one in every family, and if you don't think so, it's you. Even still, it takes a lot of guts to stand up to your family members in such a public fashion, and both Bobby Better-latte and David Glosser should be applauded for doing the right thing.
