I don't know if it's changed, but when I lived in Mt, it was a crapshoot that the computer system would be up and running, staggering, walking, or just flat out faceplanted in a ditch somewhere, which rendered the entire trip a fucking waste of time.

Make. An. Appointment. Seriously, as Brooke says, the CA DMV is no hassle if you have an appointment. Of course, I live in the empty end of the state, so appointments are easy to get, but even here the poor suckers and losers who didn't make appointments are stuck in line forfuckingever.

And by Brooke, I obviously mean our esteemed editrix, whom I would have attributed, had I been paying the slightest bit of attention before vomiting my sentences onto the screen. Which is to say, pay attention, and don't be Ed Sheeran.

Just make sure all of your vaccinations are up to date and you have emergency services on speed dial.

My experience with the California DMV has been pretty pleasant for the most part.

They have a lot of services online and if I make an appointment and bring in any paperwork they require, I'm usually out of there before my lunch break is over.

The customer service is usually just acceptable, but they've never been mean to me and I'm not there to talk and make friends. I just want to get my shit done and I don't need happy shiny people for that. Just professionals who meet a bare minimum of courteous.

Maybe it used to be worse before I became a licensed driver back in 1990.

The whole schtick really lands with me like a joke about airline food or women drivers or some other 1970's shit.

Kid 'n Nipple-Play's avatar

It used to be worse. The 80s were terrible for DMV service.

I used to make the joke: It’s like going to the DMV for your tooth abscess. Guess where I ended up one day? Luckily, they both worked out so brush your teeth, and like Rebecca said, do what you can online and make an appointment.

I'm with Rebecca on the DMV. Thousand Oaks was the office I used and they always saw me right on time and got me out of there quickly with my business successfully conducted. They even seemed to like working there. Go figure.

Oh, just down the road from my old abode in Studio City! Amgen is there.

When I moved out here 34 years ago the Silicon Valley DMVs were so bad everyone recommended going outside the valley, but now they’re much more efficient.

Here in Kansas they started setting up appointments for renewing a DL and my god, it actually works. I spent about 10 minutes inside getting my license a few years ago.

Hilton's a carpetbagger from England, whining about the CA DMV. He is possibly the worst GOP candidate for governor of CA, so far. He's an anti-vax, election denier, climate change liar, and he's got some kind of beef with the DMV. He is truly a worthless piece of billionaire shit.

But has he ever starred as The Terminator ? . . .

So this arsehat is a right wing immigrant? And both his parents were immigrants to the UK?

Fuck these people.

Old Man Shadow's avatar

Yes, but he's the white kind of immigrant!

β€œFeel Betrayed”: A GOP Congresswoman Breaks With Trump on Immigration Weeks Before the Midterms

Florida Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar just did something almost no elected Republican has been willing to do this year. She looked directly into a camera, addressed Donald Trump by name, and told him that the immigration crackdown he built his second term around has β€œgone too far.”

What was the final straw, Maria?

Everything was fine until now?

freakishlystrong's avatar

That's no leopard. That's actual people disgusted by him and his "policies."

PrimerGray's avatar

<And it likes to remind us of that fact every few years, when it belches out a Republican gubernatorial candidate who looks and acts like someone who was specifically cast to play the part of a supervillain in a movie about infiltrating California’s political system.>

I dunno. I'd work for Hank Scorpio but I probably wouldn't vote for him.

"M"'s avatar

Is this what's running for CA governor?

No wonder Karl Rove came out of the woodwork

They're clearly not even trying

See, the "smarter" Republicans I think have always been like "You can be as racist as you like as long as you do everything you can to also keep all the money"

Now all they have left is racism - so they're also LOSING money

#RacismIsExpensive

Jamoche's avatar

Especially in a state that’s only ~34% white.

"M"'s avatar

Yes. Especially that.

I remember fairly positive experiences with the DMV when I lived in LA, I remember huge parking lots and one was near a big mall so I got food and did some shopping, just lots of lines and LED numbers.

So, many years ago, probably 20 years ago i went to update my license here in the Blue Ridge. I passed the test with a motorbike cert and the "officer" asked if I'd like to update my voter registration and I said, "sure", as o wanted to confirm i was registered. He said, "I'll put you down as a republican". I said, "no". He said again, "ill just mark down republican". I raised my voice and said, "hell no."

He was in some sort of state uniform and looked like Sgt. Carter and he was a bit of an ass after that. No harm, no foul as I got done what I needed to and he was just pissed off.

PrimerGray's avatar

That seems highly illegal., like election fraud kind of illegal.
