Honestly, polls show even large sections of the Republican base are in favour of gun control (up to 90% of Republicans in some polls). It's just the denizens of the ivory tower that don't actually have to worry about ever facing gun violence and the raging ammosexuals that push for more guns.

That would be awesome! Maybe we could start by making sure people make enough monies to not get desperate to make rent if they miss a day and do some sort of thing that improves the welfare of people in between jobs. Oh, and improved mental health treatment. And while we're on the subject of medical treatment maybe make it so people don't have to pick between living on the streets or dying of a treatable condition at home, or the third option of crime to pay for medicine.
