It's not that news-readers, actors, stand-up comics (and unfunny comedians) aren't entitled to opinions, but uninformed opinions aren't worth much of anything. If there's one thing I can't abide about US "opinion" programs, its that the presenter usually doesn't have any serious intellectual claim to... well... anything.
As I recall, "pundit" was originally a 19-th century pejorative for upper crust English twits who'd spent a year or two in India, an spent the rest of their lives boring the hell out of dinner guests with their opinions on how to manage the Empire.
