Either we believe in "democracy" or we don't. Its principle: the people choose their leaders. Whom did the people ALREADY choose in NYC? Mamdani.
Whatever or whomever the congress folk are waiting for, there's no excuse. The voters chose. Fighting Trump's authoritarian moves with your own authoritarian moves? Does. Not. Get. Us. Anywhere.
100% agree on AOC regarding disappointment with the dems not supporting the clear choice of NYC democratic voters. As wonderful as Zohran is as a candidate let's be clear about whom he is running against: a corrupt weirdo who got his charges thrown out thanks to the man is who is fucking Satan, a sex pest who is now so deranged he's running against rent stabilization which doesn't cost the taxpayers anything and houses 40% of the city's renters, and a republican vigilante who still runs around in the uniform he invented for his paramilitary in the 70s.
Any New Yorkers now saying they just don't know, and Zohran is too idealistic or inexperienced or there's just something about him they don't like, are really saying something else, and that goes double for Gilibrand, Hakeem, and Chuck.
Zohran! Thank you! As a retiree, living on a very limited, fixed income, I will gladly NOT send you money, but I WILL lovingly promote you on my blog, even though I don't live in NYC"! "ZOHRAN for New York City" linked to you site will be live on my site within the hour!
And also, THANK YOU for not TEXTING ME HOURLY (even after I reply STOP) asking for a donation via a tiny URL.
So before everyone starts "We need a real liberal party, f*ck the Dems", the most successful policy changes have come from replacing the leadership. This is how Trump came into power. So let's hardcore primary out the current top brass, and turn the ship around. Much easier than building a ship from scratch.
The "Purity Ponies" are the people who put Trump in office both times. They would not vote for Harris or Clinton because they did not pass the liberal litmus test100% Instead they abstained
That's just dumb and shows lack of imagination. The RNC is now run by Lara Trump for God's sake. It's not that hard to do, especially with how much hate there is for the current crop of Dem leaders.
I’m no political scientist, but evidently even the poli sci experts have no idea how to inspire voters enough to aim higher than Donald Friggin Trump. I think trying to find “moderate” Dems who are sympathetic to MAGA, pay lip service to their paranoid bs, (like Gavin Newsom agreeing with Charlie Kirk that boys tucking their penises to dominate the girls in field hockey is WRONG) and generally trying to appeal to both wingnuts and progressives simply doesn’t work. Like, at all.
The statistics back this up - there are still more progressives, decent people disgusted by Trump and disillusioned “independents” and apolitical people than there are wingnuts. By a lot. Our turnout last year was awful. The Biden uncertainty and somewhat rushed pivot to Harris might have been the issue, or humans are simply not ready yet for a smart, capable, competent woman potus. I wish we were. We missed out on HRC and Kamala and those are both tragedies of immeasurable magnitude.
We need to lean into what worked for Obama. He inspired people’s better selves. Trump doesn’t inspire anything except hate, spite and retribution. There are unfortunately a lot of people with darkness inside them, and Trump feeds those dark impulses. But Obama caused people to feel something better - hope. His hands were mostly tied by Congress and underhanded obstruction by Mitch McConnell. But we need to lean into equality, fairness, justice, a return to respect for the law and the constitution, and perhaps above all plans and policies designed to make life better and easier for the masses. Basically, the opposite of what Trump stands for and is currently doing. If people aren’t seeing this play out and desperately ready to vote the other way, we are conclusively good and screwed.
Am I the last person to find out that Zohran Mamdani's mother is Mira Nair, and that his birth in Uganda was on account of his mom was living there while researching one of my favorite movies, "Mississippi Masala"? If I am, I'm not embarrassed, because I'm so impressed, and I like him even more.
Ta, Robyn. Mayor Mamdani is gonna rock! He was #1 on my ranked choice ballot, on which there was room for neither Adams nor Cuomo. Several of my coworkers said they were rooting for Cuomo in the primary; I hope they aren't stupid enough to vote for him in the general. Time to get them on Team Democracy.
Beyond that, Adams must be delusional to think he has a chance in a deep blue city given his recent activities:
> "sources revealed that the mayor would be heading to Washington, DC, next week for a White House sit-down over a potential cushy job with President Trump’s [sic] administration.
* Andrew Cuomo is as wack as Adams. He was handed his ass in the Dem primary, he conceded to Mayor-elect Mamdani when ranked-choice voting put him twelve points behind. Like Adams, he just can't take no for an answer so he launched a campaign as an independent (as if New Yorkers can't recognize a wolf in sheep's clothing). And like Adams, the RINOs want to boost the odds for Andy to win:
* Curtis Sliwa's fifteen minutes expired decades ago. As a dyed in the wool RINO he has the same probability of winning the election as both Adams and Cuomo: slim to none. Sliwa's the one closest to a zero probability to win.
[NB: going back to 1946, NYC has had only one mayor who remained a Repub throughout his term: Giuliani. There have been two who started as Repubs but later ran as either a Dem: John Lindsay, or as an independent: Michael Bloomberg. The remaining eight mayors were deep blue.)
not surprised by Schumer or Gillibrand (disappointing discount Hillary that she is). maybe AOC coyld primary one of them soon, and easily win, sounds like she might want to. Hakeem should really be able to read the moment better.
from his Senate not-quite leadership position, sure. i don't really want establishment dems picking his sucessor and giving them the power of incumbency. i'd much rather see what New York voters do in a primary.
Firing on and destroying a civilian vessel while it is navigating in international waters, and killing all aboard without any provocation is a crime against humanity. Those responsible should be dealt with accordingly. Needless destruction of property and murder of non-combatants because you think combatants may be hiding among them is also a crime against humanity. Those responsible should be dealt with accordingly Somehow those acts have become viewed as just Trump being Trump and just Bibi defending Judaism. It's sick and twisted!
He has immunity in the U.S. from the Supremes for anything he does as president, so perhaps it's up to the international community to at the very least make him a pariah.

I did not know this either!
New Josh Johnson standup video has dropped! Talking about when we thought the Mad King had died.

I love him.
I ❤️ him so, so much. It’s amazing how he does a different set for each show.

"Eric Adams, Andrew Cuomo, or Curtis Silwa"
* Adams just can't take "you're fired" as to his future as NYC's mayor:

fnord
I will enjoy seeing Cuomo soundly defeated again.
Here is the list of Clinton Era tough-on-crime if you're not wearing a suit D's: Hakeem Jeffries, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Chuck Schumer.
Sabalenka is starting to hit the ball hard and with confidence.
N
"Unfortunately (for them, not so much for him), Hakeem Jeffries, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Chuck Schumer are all refusing, still."
Gross. Just really fucking gross. Not unexpected, though.
Schumer is certainly not unexpected, with his support of Israel, etc, but I thought Hakeem would be better than this.
not surprised by Schumer or Gillibrand (disappointing discount Hillary that she is). maybe AOC coyld primary one of them soon, and easily win, sounds like she might want to. Hakeem should really be able to read the moment better.
I hope Schumer recognizes the moment to step down is now...

"Vote Blue no matter how Red"
There, I fixed it for you, Chuck and Hakeem.
Haven’t they resigned yet?
The strategy consultants have not recommended this.
There’s a strategy?
No, just consultants.
Vote Blue, no matter how Brown.

NO SHIT.
" this is something that could come back to bite them in the ass."
She has already supported primary challengers and tried to oust leadership. She has done everything she can do to fuck the Dems.
The DSA did not support Harris nor Biden up to the day of the election.
If you love fascism, yeah spend all your money on the NY Mayor's race.
If you do not support fascism and give one single fuck about ending it, support candidates for the House and Senate/
But stop with pretending that you give any fucks about fascism if you are focusing on the NY Mayor's race because he makes you tingle.
