Sorry, I read the these passages again, presented with your liberal spin, and I'm still disgusted with them. Obama has been the most divisive president this country has had in modern history, pitting poor against rich, blacks against whites, and illegal aliens against everbody for political gain. Much as a result of this, race relations haven't been this bad at least since the late 60's. The glossed over fawning about a president who is offering us "this much change" being presented to fourth graders who should be learning the basics of how America works and it's history, (including the GOOD along with the bad,) reeks of indoctrination over education.
I'm a "right wing nut" and I'm not going there because I haven't read her book, although I'm sure your plea to lefties will result in plenty of positive reviews by people who haven't read her book.
It's deliberately stirring up race. Based on the author's weak argument, why then was nothing said about JFK? Many thought he could never be president because he was Catholic.
I have read this book...saw it at a book fair. It does heavily emphasize race and frankly is a piece of pro Obama/pro Left Wing propaganda. It reminded me of the Maoist propaganda fed to children in Communist China, the little red book and all.

This lesson is for fourth graders, not high school or college students.. With their childlike, developing brains a fourth grader is not going to mentally articulate the tenses and draw the conclusion that this perception of suggested racism turned out to be a false one, especially not at a subconscious level..
Hence, from an NLP perspective, in its affirmative declaratory tense, by stating that "white voters would never vote for a black president", it DOES plant the blanket idea that white Americans have and have had a general history and tendency of racism towards blacks. The only way to deny that this is what's being suggested is to not want to see it..
Bottom line? They're RACE BAITING fourth graders! Anyone who can't see this is blinded by the same institutionalized, liberal/collectivist brainwashing..
