[S]o that [Thomas] will stay on the Court and do shit like outlaw nature and order all women be confined to milking barns to serve as breeding chattel.
Which is a principle we’re sure they would have stuck to if ProPublica found that Crow had also been treating Sonia Sotomayor to free weekends at resorts in Montana, or giving Elena Kagan jet rides to play in an out-of-state softball league.
//
No, they would have been fine with that, because they would be assuming Crow was busy corrupting the justices to become the same sort of sacks of shit as Thomas. Now, if it were, say, Bill Gates or George Soros or Bezos' ex* doing it, *then* alarm bells would be ringing.
* Isn't she the one who took a bunch of his money and has been spending it on at least some good things? Or am I thinking of some other rich asshole's ex-wife?
MacKenzie Scott. Almost as though she ushered in a new genre of philanthropy from day 1 of her divorce from Bezos being final: revenge giving. To every progressive cause that might conceivably piss him off.
Yeah, she's been giving money to a lot of great causes and fairly quietly too (well, as quietly as things go with that kind of money). She doesn't want her name on anything, just giving a cool $20 million here and $50 million there to organizations that do good work and need that money.
Meanwhile, her ex-husband spends his time launching giant dicks into lower orbit.
I bought both "Dangerous Visions" and "Again, Dangerous Visions" as a young teen from The Science Fiction Book Club. I probably should not have been reading most of those stories at that age. If I ever unpack my books again, I should pull those off the shelf and re-read them now and see how they hit me differently.
I also had both editions as a teen. Very interesting reading. The Big Space Fuck was a fun read and now it's something that's actually being discussed as a way to continue our biosphere once our sun starts to enter its red giant phase, or should we end up killing ourselves off due to climate change or WWIII.
Stoned Counsel; In The Barn; If All Men Were Brothers; The Word For World Is Forest; Time Travel For Pedestrians; and so many other short stories by so many great writers.
Yes, I think that the collection of stories mostly stands up over time.
Just to make sure I am clear on this: The Modern GQP have stated that the president is fully imune from the law, and can do whatever he or (hypothetically) she wants to do, including shooting people on 5th Ave., stealing top secrete documents, or covering up their affairs with porn actors to win elections. Plus, by seperation of powers, Congress has no power to place ethical restraints on any other branch of government, be it the courts or the executive.
So, while all of the GQP's investigations have turned up nothing, we now know that they were meaningless, as President Biden could, let's just say, launch a coup against the country after encouraging his violent insurgents to storm the Capitol and hang Vice President Harris for standing up for the Constitution and the Rule of Law, and Congress would have no power over him or anyone else in the executive branch.
The failed half speaker Mike Johnson, who claims to be religious, may want to read the Bible, especially the story of the money changers at the Temple. Not sure why that came to mind, but it may be relevant.
They are really struggling to find a way to say "only for Republicans" that doesn't require them to just come out and actually say, "only for Republicans." They're gonna get there, though. I mean, they've already got their entire base convinced that Democrats are an illegitimate party that only gets elected through underhanded means.
I can’t get this scene out of my mind…in “One Night in Miami” where Jim Brown returns to the island where he grew up and the scion of the plantation family, Mr. Carlton (brilliantly played by Beau Bridges), says a conversation indicating that they were so proud of him and then his daughter comes out and says they have to move furniture…. Brown says he will help and Mr. Carlton goes…”no…we don’t allow *n-word* into the house”. That will Crow the minute Clarence is of no use to him.
"'Despite his serious and continued concerns about the legality and necessity of the inquiry, Mr. Crow engaged in good faith with the Committee,' [Crow's] statement said."
Senate Judiciary Committee: “Despite our serious and continued concerns about the legality and necessity of Mr. Crow's financial relationship with one or more Supreme Court Justices, the Committee is gratified by Mr. Crow's 'good faith' engagement, and hope that it continues. The Committee, and the Government of the United States is prepared to require that cooperation, as necessary, through the enforcement of every applicable law."
I'd tell him to lawyer up, but a rich fuck like him already has all the lawyers he could possibly ever use. But they're lawyers, Harlan, not magicians. You look pretty fucking guilty from where I stand.
I wear orange every day in June in solidarity with the Parkland (and other) kids. It's usually just my orange glass bead necklace. On the anniversary of the Pulse shooting, I went all out and wore an orange dress.
Re that picture at the head of this article; cue Bruce Cockburn's classic "If I had a Rocket Launcher".

Ta, Gary. They're not friends, the way you and I have friends. It's strictly transactional. And totally disgusting.
Up fist for Dangerous Visions reference. Harlan Ellison would have been proud.
It's no longer Justice Clarence Thomas, but Partisan Political Hack Clarence Thomas. At least until he resigns due to bribery.

Well of course. Because if they die in a hail of bullets, that's obviously God's plan™️
Is that a Cuban cigar Clarence is smoking. Odds are 99.999999% likely.
Fuck Clarence Thomas.
If billionaires cannot guarentee corrupt, friendly Supreme Court Justices, is this really America any more?
I agree. It is a crying shame the way America treats its downtrodden billionaires...

Harlan Crow is Cantaloupe Capone with real money and more brain power.
John Oliver needs to sweeten his offer. Throw in a time share in Bali.
Maybe Harlan Crow and Clarence Thomas are in love? This is all a deeply romantic love story.
Must be why he refers to Ginnie as his “best friend.”
Beard?
It would be irresponsible not to speculate...
Indeed it would!

Apropos only of SCOTUS:
June 2016, Pulse. 49 killed, 53 wounded, by ONE guy, over THREE HOURS.
Don’t tell me ‘it’s not the guns’.
October 2017, Las Vegas. 58 killed, nearly 500 wounded, by ONE guy over TEN MINUTES.
Don’t tell me ‘it’s not the bump stocks’.
The soulless fiends, on the Court and in the Congress, have got to go…with votes, dammit!

Bingo.
This story is finally getting enough legs that it got a news blast on my Windows news home page.
