As we've noted previously, our 10th-grade Christianist textbook, World History and Cultures In Christian Perspective, is a weird patchwork of preaching and history as filtered through late-Reagan-era rightwing politics. This is especially noticeable in the chapter "20th Century Liberalism: Retreat from Responsibility and Authority" which we wrap up this week. The God Stuff in this chapter is concentrated in sections we've already covered, starting with attacks on
I liked the oh-so-discreet very last sentence: "Crapo has told the Associated Press in past interviews that he abstains from drinking alcohol."
Gosh, where's the "He's a LIAR. BENGHAZZZIIII!!!!"
I'm waiting for a friend to pick me up later today; I'm getting the first day off I've had in over a year! TWO DAYS OFF! I'm looking forward to the alarm clock not going off at 6am as it does 7 days a week but the friends I'll be staying with have a 3-year-old boy and even if he gets up at 4am to discover that Santa Claus has been there that will be just fine too. To witness firsthand the joy and amazement of a child, that he would get presents from some unknown, unseen person simply for being a child is something I'm looking forward to and need very much. I'll return to Wonkette the day after Christmas but I hope everyone enjoys themselves. If you travel I hope you arrive at your destination safely. If you're stuck with family you see only on holidays I hope you muddle through it. I don't have much but then I don't need much. Whatever I have I wish I could share with all of you. Here's one of my holiday favorites: MST3K's Santa Claus Conquers the Martians " rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYIl69BHzQM">http://www.youtube.com/watc...
I'm going to blame it on the eggnog, even though I haven't had any, but I just got "Tell me about the free market George" . and I've even taught AND love the novel. (those two things do not necessarily go together).
Point of order. Rufus and Carla were the father and daughter. Carla Thomas recorded several duets with Otis Redding, one as 'Otis and Carla', but they weren't related. There are other examples of father-daughter duets that would be inappropriate if you thought the singers were expressing their own emotions: Nat and Natalie Cole on "Unforgettable", Frank and Nancy Sinatra on "Somethin' Stupid". You know, Frank's boys could still get a bit upset on his behalf...
My father was born on a hardscrabble farm in Oklahoma and my mother in a little windblown town in the Texas Panhandle. Anyone of that generation and location viewed FDR as a God at the time as he brought changes that truly made a positive difference in their lives. Almost everyone any way. In that same small Texas town I remember as a little boy buying something in a local store (there were no such thing as chain stores then) and the owner ended my transaction thus: "That's 49 cents for me and a penny for the Democrats (state sales tax)." His son was my most beloved high school teacher and told me this story that took place in the family store near the end of WWII. His father came to where he and his mother were busy working and he told his wife that the day they had been hoping and praying for had finally come. My mentor, about 10 at the time, thought that the war must have finally ended. His mother replied "You don't mean . . ." And his father replied "Yes! Roosevelt is dead!" He always told that story with sadness and some embarrassment. Perhaps our country has moved past the time in which the government or a single party can make any meaningful difference to people as opposed to doing the biding of its campaign fundraisers,
"Adolf Hitler — who (spoiler alert!) was a “socialist” — came to power because Germany’s cultural and political elites were corrupted by liberalism and didn’t hew to the Bible."
Oh, the stupid humanity... Of course, the fact that the CHRISTIAN DEMOCRATS were just fine with Hitler's rise, and the REAL SOCIALISTS ended up in concentration camps is just errant liberal nonsense.

Well, obviously, THAT was my problem, NOT the non-existent eggnog! The "again" would have made all the difference.

Let's hope Obama knows enough history to avoid repeating it.

To the victors belong the text-edits.
Are you thinking of the so-called "moon landing"?
"Adolf Hitler — who (spoiler alert!) was a “socialist” — came to power because Germany’s cultural and political elites were corrupted by liberalism and didn’t hew to the Bible."

They put in just enough corrections to convince most people that everything else in the paper was right.
Actually, that came through.
So I tried even more poorly (?) to cite another denial-conspiracy.
He doesn't want to hurt us, but we just don't listen.
Maybe when enough people have starved to death or died of cholera, the survivors will respond appropriately to Love.
When did you realize history is Bunk?
