I looked, and that rumor long pre-dates Wolfe's repetition of it - and Melania and the WH did nothing about those rumors.
I guess Wolfe is just too big a target, and perhaps a more reliable reporter than the gossip columnists that first brought this out, so he had to be smacked down. Of course, "The Daily Beast: caved immediately and retracted that part of the piece that was complained about.
Besides, if you saw that creepy photo, the one where Smelania (I love that I get to use that appropriately finally), has her MOST subtle "I'm a model, if you know what I mean," look, head artfully thrown back.
