Last I heard, he has completely ignored the ruling and promised to impose another global 10% tariff, which he changed soon afterwards to 15%.

A commentator said the Roberts opinion read like he was trying to get all nine votes for it, and the delay was him still holding out hope he could get the right-wingers to cut the crap.

Trump was expecting "his" SC justices to show loyalty by letting him get his way. They didn't. But they probably will next time.

Ta, Marcie Putin is laughing his ass off. I cannot hate this timeline because I married my one and only true love, but I can loathe and detest it.

Well, we can all understand trump's confusion and anger. The Supreme 6 told him he could do anything he wanted as President and now, huh, they tell him they didn't mean it. What's a cartoon dictator to do but have a meltdown and call everyone names then do what he wants anyway.

The thing that makes me most gobsmacked about Trump? That anyone sees him as any sort of business genius.

Trump bankrupted CASINOS. As in, more than one. Let’s think about that for a moment.

What’s the business model of a casino? People GIVE YOU MONEY in return for absolutely nothing but the chance you’ll give some of it back to some of them. You even get to decide how much you want to give back.

That’s it - that’s the business model.

Trump could not make a go of this business model on multiple occasions. He’s either the worst businessman in the history of commerce, or laundering money on an industrial scale. Maybe both.

I think the casino thing was money laundering more than anything else, bankrupting them was the plan all along perhaps.

I believe this to be true. Obscenely stupid, but true.

Mark Burnett has a lot to answer for. MAGA believes he's a business genius because of a very shitty TV show.

helenasgarden's avatar

I imagine the only ones that dumb are the MAGAts. Everyone else is steering Trump to do their bidding for bigger bucks. He's a useful, demented tool.

I hate to be cynical, though it is true that no matter how cynical I am it never seems to be cynical enough...but....

Consumer prices stabilizing or even going down before the midterms is manna from heaven for them.

That is precisely why this ruling came as it did.

We know by now that a) to the extent American democracy has worked in the past, it's only been because of the forbearance of the people we put in charge of it, and b) Americans are capable of putting very bad people in charge of it.

So, assuming this isn't the last time that will happen, the first thing a Democratic congress should do is repeal every emergency power their predecessors have written into the U.S. Code over the past 239 years. Every. Goddamn. One.

I'm not saying there's no reason to give the President emergency powers. I'm just saying the downside risk far outweighs the upside potential, here in 2026 America. So, wipe them all out and start over.

Obviously safeguards are inadequate, we must now check the power of the executive, as if at any time, the office will be held by an insane criminal

Trump's hissy cracked me up. Nothing like insulting the morons you appointed to the SC.

HA HA HA! And I did not hear a word on MS NOW about Trump throwing a tantrum like a child flinging himself on the floor in the grocery.

Supreme Court finds that Trump's hands are even smaller than previously thought.

I agree with tRump. The two he chose are a disgrace to the nation and disloyal to the constitution.

maybe he can help impeach them.Alito and Thomas while at it.

This means all the prices will come back down, right?

tegrat's avatar

Sure, but they sat on their asses for six months doing nothing. The court is corrupt and first order of business is to clean it up once we get past the fascism. In a working congress, this BS should never have even gotten to the SCOTUS, the language on tariffs could not be clearer.

helenasgarden's avatar

I imagine they sat on their asses for this very outcome. Trump rakes in the cash that is almost impossible to return, the SC looks good, and once the midterms are over, the SC can reverse its ruling. It also looks like the dissent was to purposely give Trump an avenue to do whatever he likes. And KA CHING for the SC loyalists.

kmblue187's avatar

Corrupt? Not three out of four women.

We had a plan to fix SCOTUS in 2020 -- you'll have to ask YT Democrats why it was studied and studied and studied, but not implemented

I'm certain all those very serious pundits who scolded liberals for impugning the integrity of the Supreme Court "Justices" for their Wilhoit's law paradigm, are putting the polishing touches on their editorials excoriating Trump for his invective against the court.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

kmblue187's avatar

I had to look it up:

“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.” That line—written by Frank Wilhoit—has become a popular aphorism to sum up the hypocrisy of and moral bankruptcy of the modern Republican Party."
