We would like to take a moment to thank the community of Tupelo, Mississippi, for giving us Elvis Presley, that strange Van Morrison song about honey, and now, all these years later, the chicken-fried braintrust of Paul Kevin Curtis and James Everett Dutschke. The only surprise about these gentlemen is that Curtis, the Elvis (and Kid Rock) impersonator who thinks he stumbled across a sinister
Spoofing your Mac is only for the truly paranoid since it doesn't propagate through a router. Disguising your ip with any of the various anonymizers is a good idea for anyone planning criminal activity though.
Then there's that invisible recovery partition ...
What you want to do is buy a new HD on eBay for $70 and install it. Then you open up the old one, put on a pair of goggles, and hammer the platters to bits -- interestingly, they're made of glass. (I suppose, in Mississippi, you could just use it for target practice without attracting much attention.)
That's actually how I deal with my trashed drives, btw. With the hammer, I mean.
You can do a slow format which zeros the whole disk but that isn't enough either if someone really wants to get the data back, which is why you can download tools to flip your bits seven times; even then truly secure destruction involves taking the disk apart and chemically dissolving the magnetic surface.
Plus none of that can possibly help you if the cops already have your files - d'oh!
ETA: if you we're using a vm then deleting it would take out downloaded files saved in the vm too.
For the benefit of the British, I feel compelled to point out that spoofing your mac does not entail the disguising of coats of any kind. I have to say though, \"aluminum\" has always bothered me: cf chromium, vanadium, uranium, plutonium, californium, helium, lithium, actinium... need I go on? Because I can if I must.
Options available off the top of my head: Microsoft VirtualPC (I think they still call it that); VMware; Xen; VirtualBox. There's also whatever Mac users have to run Windows.

Like winning a snail race.

"I can't stop my leg!"
Yeah, no shit.
They would have sent in a Predator drone, but the guidance system didn't know where the hell Tupelo is.
Roni. (Someone had to answer).
I give Mensa members all due respect.
Well, yes, you can do that. I was only remarking that he didn't.

Fun fact: since it was Taekwondo, it should really be called a Dojang instead.
The cops love it when they go to the media. Admissible non-Mirandized statements? Thank you very much!
I would go read it to test your hypothesis, but I need my eyes to continue to work.

Five are that. The other five are Israel, Israel, Israel, Israel, and Israel.
