Sorry I couldn't access the Mitch Albom political article, thanks to a fershlugginer paywall. As an old-time Michigan resident, I wanted to point out that before he made a carload of money writing treacly books about "The Three Random Acquaintances You Meet in Heaven," he was probably the best sports reporter in the nation. I'm sure he'll improve the tenor of political commentary -- heck, I may even renew my subscription to the Detroit Free Press!
I know instinctively that Elizabeth Warren is where she needs to be right now, doing the peoples work, but OMG I would vote for a Warren ticket in half a heartbeat.
"Trump will only debate Biden now if he agrees to a drug test. No, Trump thinks Biden’s on drugs."
And has Trump realized that this will mean *he* has to take one, too? I'm guessing no, because we all know which one of the two would be more likely to fail a drug test ( assuming they test for Adderall, that is ).
Trump's starting his cowardly retreat from the debates by demanding shit he knows cannot and will not happen.
Watch what comes next. Trump demands Biden be cut in half and his rings counted to prove his age. Trump demands Biden submit a DNA test to prove he's not Obama. Or Nancy Pelosi. Or a Transformer.
Mitch Albom's column is, and has been for most of his career, a waste of ink, column space, pixels, and whatever else makes up newspapers these days. He's always been an unctuous, preening, judgmental scold, but he's becoming more of a rabid right-winger with every word. And he's been know to make up stories when he thinks the facts don't "pop" quite enough. His inexplicable continuing popularity and employment is a stain on Michigan's reputation.
He's a hack and has been forever. The Gen X, white scolds who inexplicably write for Detroit papers (LeDuff, Nolan Finley, and Albom) can all take a flying leap.
It’s a holiday Monday here so I am being disgracefully lazy. The Toronto Wonkgathering was delightful, with fancy cocktails, gourmet bar snacks and good conversation. Donna Rose and Lula are even more adorable in person than in pics, of course. Thanks again Becca!
My current favorite mystery series, Grantchester, has gone woke! (it was always a bit woke) They've gone and hired a guy with obvious South Asian ancestry as the new vicar! The Horrors!!1!!

I am way damn late to Tabs today, so I expect to be utterly redundant to previous posts, but when has that ever stopped me from posting? First, HCR (Heather Cox Richardson) who I have all by myself decided has earned and deserves an initial reference along with OHJB, HRC, RBG, and anyone else I have forgotten, has a posting today that covers in detail President Biden’s commencement speech yesterday at Morehouse College. No, I’m not crying, you’re crying. Read it.
As for Senator Warren, we’ll, yes, as usual, And yet she persisted.

I read Tiedrich’s post about Trump’s “racehorse theory”. I’m pretty sure that if you tried to sell a horse because its _uncle_ was successful, you’d get laughed out of the room.
Spent a pleasantly warm weekend doing fun things like clearing space for a new raised garden bed and having sangria and pizzas with friends. One of said friends is an interesting guy who is heavily into organic weed farming and was raised by his childhood best friend's family, the McDaniels. That childhood best friend married a truly terrible woman named Ronna Romney. So yes, he agreed to pass along my message of "fuck you, you terrible person" to her, as he can't stand her either. Also, their attempts to turn him into a good Mormon appear to have failed completely.
A much better life goal than mine, which is to get an RV and travel around following Clarence Thomas, so that I can let the air out of his RV's tires every night.
