Afghanistan and Syria are over that way, asshole. Bet you could get tickets for cheap right now, and no one is going to stop you. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...
FWIW, before it was officially named, I referred to it as "Corona-Wuhan", because we frequently name diseases after where the first documented outbreak was. Hence Spanish Flu (actually from elsewhere, but not reported), Ebola-Reston (Reston. VA), Legionnaire's disease (American Legion convention), Tularemia (Tulare County, CA -- home of Devin Nunes).
From a not-very-good episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation:
Commander William T. Riker: [about the tenacity of the Rikers] My great-grandfather once got bit by a rattlesnake. After three days of intense pain... the snake died.
"We the undersigned residents of the Terrible Sand Kingdom of Arizonastan would like to apologize to the sane parts of this country for the infestation of Republicans who foisted this goober first on the AZ lege, then on Congress."
[signs name, passes it to the next person...]
(and if the name for a group of republicans isn't 'An infestation' it surely should be!
My first reaction was that the attendee was far more likely to catch something from Ted Cruz than Cruz was to catch the corona virus from the attendee.
It's like that old shark joke about professional courtesy between sharks and lawyers: Cruz and germs.
Of course it is possible that taking a bit out of Cruz would sicken any virus yet found.
Any emergency package has to include sick pay and unemployment compensation for everyone. If you work on contract, for companies with fewer than 50 employees (that's most workers), or under 40 hours (like all those people whose hours are limited so the company doesn't have to pay health care, but who are for all practical purposes full time), you are denied many of even the minimal worker protections, like unemployment compensation, in this country. (I, for instance, work on contract for a theater company. My municipality is talking about shutting down things like theaters. So I'm screwed if that happens.)

That's the problem. People aren't going to "let the government tell them what to do".
