“Maybe?” Try “absolutely!!”

And THAT is a high bar to cross.

To be fair, they have always said they want the country back in the 1950s. So at least they are on-brand, even if it actually makes no sense...

Ok I'll explain it so you libs can understand--in 1964 southern whites all magically decided they just loved tax cuts and hated abortion, so they all decided to start becoming Republicans then, even though in the '60s the Democrats were the party of tax cuts (Johnson cut taxes that year over GOP objections) and of course abortion didn't become a big political issue defining the parties until the late '70s. Just accept it, ok? Strom and other southern racists joined the GOP because they decided racism was bad and tax cuts were good, or something. It made sense when I watched it on Prager U!

The right wing explanation for why blacks overwhelmingly support the "party of racism" requires believing blacks are easily bought off by free stuff. You have to have a very low opinion of black people to buy that.

The original Republican position was against the expansion of slavery, not its abolition. That came later, and quickly turned to plutocracy. Abolition got left behind as a primary goal.

He's locked into the wingnutosphere. He makes a point of admiring black people like Candace Owens, etc.

I try to avoid getting into any political discussions with my brother.

Waves to GH from France 👋 with memories of growing up in the shadow of Mt Si. *sigh*

Our house was taken by the freeway. Last time I visited, the blue spruce we planted by the back door was still there, in the median of exit 32.

My friends in report this, it is hopeful indeed. As a former Hays holdout, I'm halfway tempted to resettle down there in a few years, bring the commune, get ourselves involved in the city council and county politics now that we're no longer part of the floating population.

Hays is back to being purple. still very red in the north end of the county, though.

Is this going to be a contest? Because I feel there are plenty of contenders.
