See? Helpers. They really are most of us At a time when it seems like America is full of awful people who'd happily welcome a return to a nice state of civil war, when the president is a fatuous idiot who has no idea what he's doing, and when really pretty much everyone is terrible, let's take a moment to remember that most of us have some heroism inside us, and a lot of us can be pretty damned impressive when we're called on to help others. Let's have some appreciation for all the neighbors helping neighbors in Texas, because that's just what you do.
thanks for condemning nearly 30 million people. no doubt about it: our senators were wrong then and many of us said that at the time while donating to relief efforts and sending personnel. do you really want to be equally bad?
I'm glad there are heroes. I'm glad my cousin's house didn't get worse than an inch of water.
I lived in Houston for a while. It seemed like people drove with a sort of fait accompli attitude: "I've merged into your lane. You can slow down a little, or we can both die. Whatever!" One had to be fairly aggressive just to get along.
From time to time, this snarling mass of driving humanity would get a surprise when some major traffic light would go out suddenly. This is when the miracle would occur: everyone would drive courteously, taking turns to get through the intersection smoothly. It's as if a veneer of animal me-first rage had been peeled away, revealing decent people acting like good citizens. It was a sobering thought later on, when everything was back to normal, that these yahoos all had that down inside them somewhere.
I hardly condemned them. They can't help it if they keep voting in pathetic losers all the time. They made sure to grift during Sandy while 113 Americans died. Their pockets we're very well lined.
So true....I guess I was reacting to a lot of negative shit being said about my home state. While I agree completely about the criticism of Texas politicians!
This is one of the most gripping episodes on television for me, with Fred Rogers sitting down with nothing but decency, facing a gang of GOP ax-wielders intent on killing public television, and seeing him talk quietly and slowly as they are won over.
My NY 'colleague' does indeed remember Cruz's asshole inhumanity. That doesn't mean he's voting against help for Texas. Like me, he's a liberal, and doesn't put a test of political correctness on humanitarian aid.
I would be afraid that he would enjoy the pissing.

they are. but there are many using what they learned during Katrina to help.
I guess it was Brownie, doing a heckuva job.

spanks for helping both lefties and righties in Houston. (it's more leftie than not.)

This is true. Lived there 32 years. There is some unspoken societal contract as to what to do at a dead traffic light.
