What proof does this cretin have that he was the father of the fetus? Was there a DNA test done when she had the abortion? Was there a DNA test done at any point in the pregnancy? What if she had been having a relationship with another man (and given what a troll this Davis guy is, I could hardly fault her)?
Anyway, he can't prove that he was the father of this fetus. Until he does, if he does, he has no standing. I understand that it's Texas, but still...
Ta, Robyn. Once upon a time, most likely before you were born, I spent over a year in TX. I shall never again set foot in that state, until they wake up and vote for a Democratic majority at every level of government. And yes, I know that more than being a Republican voting state, TX is a non-voting state. Only part of that is voter suppression.
If Texas really wants to leave the country, we should help them out.
Then we hire (and pay well) immigrants to build a wall (or a moat) along the boarder. If mote, I'm sure a lot of public-spirited people would be happy to supply some crocodiles.
It has crossed my mind that one strategy for dealing with this stupid Texas (is that redundant?) law would be for folks to track the moments of every high level GOP's female relatives and file a lawsuit every time one leaves the state.
If you think you're pregnant, don't go to the doctor unless you intend to have the baby. You can't be pregnant and suddenly not pregnant without arousing suspicion. Use a home pregnancy test, then decide your next move.
Use burner phones to communicate if you are seeking abortion services and to talk to friends about arrangements. DO NOT use your phone or laptop. Sounds dramatic, but this is the world we live in and I don't trust anyone.
Plan a vacation to New Mexico, or somewhere safe. Have a story, in case you are questioned.
If I read this four years ago, I would have thought "paranoid idiot". Since the demise of Roe v Wade, it sounds like sensible advice.
I would suggest one extra piece of advice; if you do need to communicate plans for an abortion with people, they MUST also use burner phones, no laptop or personal phones. This is for THEIR sake as well as yours.
They may be supportive and even willing to help, but unless they use tight infosec, they can be used to track you, and under some state legislation, they can be charged with enabling an abortion.
In 1989 in Canada Chantal Diagle was taken to court by an abusive ex-boyfriend to prevent her from getting an abortion. The Supreme Court eventually decided in her favour, but by then she had already had the abortion. I remember it was quite eye-opening for me that a young woman had to rely on the opinions of a bunch of (mostly) old religious male strangers on whether or not she had to bear an unwanted child and remain tied to her abuser for the rest of her life.
Women of childbearing age should not live in a red state. Period. It's one thing if they're born there and are stuck there for financial reasons... totally sad, and there should be charities forming right now to front them "moving and setting up a new life" money. But for any woman past puberty and post menopause that has any kind of means to escape, Get The Fck Out Now. And no women outside a red state should be considering a job in a red state. I don't care how good that paycheck or benefits package or job title looks, you're gonna regret it when you're booking a last minute airfare to a blue state after you miss a period, begging an ER to treat you as you're bleeding out on the floor, pleading with a doctor that "I'm not even pregnant!" when you need immediate care and they want to wait for the pregnancy test to come back first. Fck that shit. Come to/stay in a blue state where you are still an equal citizen.
I am so glad that a) I do not live in TX, b) that I am no longer of childbearing age and c) that I was sterilized at 27 so that I'd never have to deal with some asshole telling me whether or not I could use birth control. I hope that his plan fails spectacularly and that some good lawyer takes the case pro-bono and works to get this draconian law reversed.
Blame Mother Nature. Not men.
I am complicit.
Texas is NOT Hell. Hell has better company.
Standing?

Texas will probably try to drag the clinic to court for "destruction of evidence".
I think the law says that anyone can sue. Texas assumes that everyone has legal status to control women's lives and contraceptive choices.
Excellent argument, Counsel.

If you really want to make an impression on them, skip their families and track their girlfriends.
I've had my yearly conversation with my aides.
Don't use period trackers.

Don't talk about it.

I agree. I suggest networking with like-minded peers as a means of support and yeah, burner phones all around.
We're on the other side of the looking glass.
With all due respect and sympathy to Wonkers who are forced to live there, or who live there despite everythingβ¦fuck Texas.

"the horrific Texas legislation allowing people to sue anyone who βaids and abetsβ an abortion"
`
For example, by telling the person to come visit the blue state where you live?
Does anybody else consider that a TEENSY bit of an infringement of their freedom of speech?
I wonder what they do about all the abortion (miscarriages) that their version of God is responsible for.
Have the Medical Examiner investigate?
Not a lawyer. These investigations are under oath and subject to perjury law.
Was there something in the abortion law I missed that allowed them to amputate a body part every time you take the Fifth?
Well, I was going to invite you to dinner here in Texas but that is definitely off now, missy.

I am not a lawyer, so I have to ask: Can the deponents take the Fifth in a deposition?
Criminal definitely. If their is no jeopardy attached, no.
It's Texas ... jeopardy should always be assumed.
