When I got married in 1988 I was not going to change my name, and got a huge hassle from the clerks, who were telling me that to NOT change my name I had to fill out a change-of-name form, or the province would change my name automatically. But brides changing their name had to fill out the form as well to get their name changed. They could not understand the logical inconsistency in their argument. I didn't change my name. It's never been a problem.

I am planning to change my legal name to Registered Voter in order to nip any problems like this in the bud.
