My guess? Media, the criminal justice system, etc. uses the killer's full name to prevent confusion with another person who has the same first and last name. That way, John Gacy of Santa Monica can go about his day. John Wilkes Booth never went by that name; it was used to prevent confusion with his brother Junius Wilkes Booth. This might also explain why killers, suspected and otherwise, with less common named don't get the same treatment (eg Aileen Wornos, Ted Kaczynski, etc).

Prenatal care not only increases health of the mother, but prevents conditions that can cause damage to the fetus as well (congenital infections, placental insufficiency, etc). So much for loving all those babies they’re forcing women to have.

Head image: a clean well-lighted place for killing people. Even my basement bathroom (with the laundry sink) looks more civilized.

You have to identify someone carefully when you're talking about murder charges or executions. There are a lot of Joe Smiths, but maybe not as many Joseph Edward Smiths.

That is what I was taught in Comm Law.

Related question: when they give a lethal injection, why do they swab the prisoner's arm with alcohol first? Are they worried the lethal poison might give them an infection?

Panetti, repeatedly diagnosed as schizophrenic, represented himself, calling to the stand witnesses like Jesus Christ and John F. Kennedy. . . .. . .And yet no one said, "Hey, maybe this guy is not guilty by reason of insanity?"

Isn't that why he called Jesus to the stand?

The issue with passing judgement on homicidal psychotics is not that they don't understand why they are being punished, it's they don't understand what they did is wrong.

FTR I oppose the death penalty. No exceptions.

Same here, on about the same timeline. If you notice now, when churches assign people to read the entire bible, they follow with a specific series of chapters and verses and those serve as sufficient. I suspect they have learned and are stepping around the atheist-creating parts.

"a person's ability to fully understand what it is they did, why it is wrong"

Sounds like TFG.
