At a Tea Party meeting Monday night at a Lutheran church in Fort Worth, Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who is running for re-election, called for the impeachment of President Barack Obama. This is now apparently something that lieutenant governors now have a say in.
"I don’t know about you, but Barack Obama ought to be impeached."
Taken literally, he is saying he doesn't know if the people he is talking to should be impeached. But if he had included "I think" in the second part of the sentence after "but," he would be highlighting that what he is saying is just an opinion and would probably (in his own mind, at least) sound less persuasive.
