Today has been, is, and shall be entirely boring. And slightly uncomfortable.

My stump is being annoying. Phantom pain is pissing me off. I’m so tired of being able to “feel” my foot and ankle. I’m also tired of my stump feeling…much of anything. Like, I can feel the things that were fixed and glued together at the end of my stump. It’s bloody annoying.

But I confess that the biggest thing on my mind continues to be fear. Specifically, I’m scared that when I see my surgeon Thursday, he’s going to give me bad news involving admission to the hospital again.

The comforting thing I’m trying to hold on to: I can’t see problems with my stump. No discharge, no smell, no prominent swelling, and no weird colors. Just, unfortunately, discomfort. Although I can’t tell if that part is real or phantom.

Ugh. I miss having something tasty to puff on. I’d love to go sit on my back porch and enjoy the evening.

Oh, "that was his persona online." Great. The next time Repubs get in anyone's face about Hassan Piker, just say "that's his persona online."

"Railroad Commissioner" doesn't seem to have much to do with trains. Possibly it refers to the fact that they've got the world tied the the railroad tracks and the train is almost here.

"The Railroad Commission of Texas oversees the vast oil and gas industry, including pipelines, drilling permits, waste disposal and new programs like carbon capture and storage."

Their mandate from the state is to enable the companies, and don't try any of that dadgummed liberal regulation shit.

It's a powerful position there controlling the Energy Sector.

I believe GWB was Railroad Commissioner before he got elected Governor.

Saxophonist and bandleader Julian "Cannonball" Adderley was born on this day in 1928. Here he is with his quintet in 1962 playing "Bohemia After Dark". Brother Nat Adderley is on cornet here:

"Online critics are accusing Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick of posting a fake video of supposed pieces of the Kennedy Center ceiling collapsing.

Lutnick posted the video on his official X account as the Kennedy Center board voted to shut down for renovations. Lutnick, whose wife sits on the board, has previously called for closing the facility because its collapsing ceiling makes it "dangerous."

In his post, Lutnick wrote that the ceiling was "crashing violently" onto the center's main floor because of the "collapsing concrete" and "steel that is rotting." Just as President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday, Lutnick wrote that a security guard avoided the falling ceiling "by just minutes," adding that "patrons could have been killed."

However, critics quickly pointed out details in the video posted by Lutnick that cast doubt on the authenticity of the video and the legitimacy of Lutnick's demands for a Kennedy Center shutdown.

"Why was the yellow caution sign in the exact place where the ceiling fell in, before it fell in?" wondered Andrew Feinberg, a White House correspondent for The Independent.

"Security cameras don't point low on to the ground," noted political consultant and journalist Adam Cochran. "The way that shatters looks more like a bad AI edit than a slow frame security camera."

Huh, it's almost like nobody is willing to believe a fuckin' thing that the secretary says!

That could be a handicap for a fellow in that job

If it's under 15 seconds it's probably A1

Elviouslyqueer's avatar

Even the poorest poorly maintained buildings don't usually have ceilings that fall in without there being a cascading series of things that caused the collapse in the first place. Not saying it couldn't happen, but "rotting steel"? Yea, that's not really a thing.

Then what in the HELL is he doing in power, FFS?

There was a time when Americans counted on US news media to sufficiently reiterate and appropriately disdain such egregious deficits from powerful leaders.

Time is ticking away and circumstances only continue to deteriorate.

"M"'s avatar

It's not just lack of brains

The bigots in the White House -- and their legislative and some judicial accomplices as well as some in "law enforcement" -- have put together a PERMISSION STRUCTURE such that the ones who bleat their racism out loud don't feel like they have to use the dogwhistles anymore

No Quid Bro Code's avatar

I mean MAGA thinks dog whistling is for cucks. Like sharks with the taste of blood, you’re not easily going to get them back from the taste of Turner Diaries-level racism.

SterWonk's avatar

I believe they're referring to Prop. 187 in 1994:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_California_Proposition_187#Legacy

'Noting a rapid increase in the number of Latinos voting in California elections, some analysts cite Wilson and the Republican Party's embrace of Proposition 187 as a cause of the subsequent failure of the party to win statewide elections. A 2006 study published in the American Journal of Political Science found that Republican support of Proposition 187 and two later state ballot initiatives—Proposition 209 in 1996, which ended affirmative action at governmental institutions, and Proposition 227 in 1998, which limited bilingual education in public schools—shifted both white and Latino voters in California away from identifying with the Republican Party and toward the Democratic Party. The authors of the study said that the "results raise serious questions about the long-term efficacy of racially divisive strategies for electoral gain."'

Bitter Scribe's avatar

Yeah, I kind of thought that would be it.

For the benefit of others, 187 was a heavy-footed crackdown on "illegals." What really made people gag was preventing public schools from enrolling "illegal" children. It fucked over the Republican Party in California to this day. Sometimes life, and politics, 𝘢𝘳𝘦 fair.

Pete Wilson was a weasel's weasel. That fucker was the JD Vance of his time and place.
