It’s ironic that Texas wants to portray the Alamo defenders heroic, when in fact Santa Anna was trying to drive out the Americans because they were legalizing slavery which was antithetical to the Mexicans

Some of the Ten Commandments :

VI. Thou shalt not kill…. Except Muslims and Lebanese Christians and other people of color

VIl. Thou shalt not commit adultery.- except with hookers and children

VIII. Thou shalt not steal. Just lie about it!

Having and affirming sincerely held religious belief does nothing for those who ask for commutations of death penalties to life in prison...

"These people are doing the exact things that will make these kids 'hate America.'"

Also the things that will make their kids dump them in a home at the first available opportunity, and then not visit them on their birthday or call on Christmas

Andy Reed's avatar

And what will these kids think when they apply to colleges with actual (and deserved) reputations for excellence in education, and they are either denied admission because of their ignorance; discover that their dreams and falsehoods are shattered when they enter the real world; or try to accommodate the new realities they encounter and learn that not only was everything they were taught in Texas false, but that their parents were in on it and are as much a problem as the legislators. Boy, won't that create a cohort of angry, frustrated, left-wing radicals who will be determined to overthrow everything they don't like.

They won't learn any of this stuff. They won't be able to go to any college outside Texas.

I’m from San Francisco (5th generation) and lived in NYC in the 80s and I’m in the Arts. The number of LGBTQ people who migrated to these areas during my lifetime from places like Oklahoma/Texas/The South in general/The Midwest…every rural area in every state…It breaks my brain that this kind of migration is the only hope for so many people (And, of course, people of color as well) STILL the only hope for all these people. I had a friend who got a job as a professor in Arkansas in the 80s…she went into deep cover but couldn’t sustain (she’d grown up on the West Coast and got her doctorate at Columbia) it. She ended up going to LA for awhile and then back to her family to take care of her parents. The 80s!!!

“We just want our students to love our country,” one Republican lady said at a GOP prayer session..."

Typical republican/conservative claptrap. I can love my country while acknowledging its flaws. I want my country to be a better place for EVERYONE, you selfish bitch. I was born in 1960 and during elementary school they "taught" me American "history" leaving out the warts. In high school I started getting a glimpse of the warts and by college the warts were so fucking massive it tore me apart. But I didn't stop loving my country. I did really resent all the assholes who want to whitewash the fucking world with your lies of omission. When your children learn the truth, and they will, they will not thank you for the lies. They will feel betrayed and they may even hate you for it.

When I was in 10th grade in 1970, we had a filmstrip (it's like a PowerPoint presentation) on LSD created by the federal government. In it, they showed photos of infants born with hands growing out of their shoulders and feet growing out of their hips. We were told that these babies were born to parents where one or both had done LSD 24-48 hours prior to conceiving.

In college, I learned that those were photos of 1950's babies born to women who took Thalidomide.

The first time I was offered acid, I took it without hesitation, because I figured if there was any actual danger, the government wouldn't have tried to scare me away from it with lies.

Yeah, the govt has been telling lies about a lot of things for decades. But I hadn't heard about using Thalidomide babies to scare kids about LSD. Especially considering how long govt spent using LSD for mind control experiments.

"No one should be granted special legal status based on their LGBTQ+ identification."

Wow, I actually agree with them! Gay people should have EXACTLY the same rights as everyone else. No more, no less. Or do they think gay folk have extra advantages under law, and if so, what are they? "Live your life without being abused" doesn't count.

If you lie on your dating profile, eventually your dates will catch on and realize you aren’t a 6’4” special ops cryptocurrency billionaire. Because it’s kinda obvious once they get to know you.

If you lie on your party platform…well, TBF it’s worked so far.

I don’t understand why their rule about trans people goes up to 26. A 26 year old is an adult, not a child. It’s ok to for them to vote and drink and do everything adult, except they can’t be trans? Fuck these GOP! Fuck Ted Cruz as always.

Kroger grocery stores won't sell tobacco products to anyone under 26.

I honestly don't love my country. The thing is, I think I probably could love it *if* I had been taught an *accurate* history of the United States of America in school, but I wasn't. I got tons of patriotic propaganda instead, to the point that I knew next-to nothing about our treatment of indigenous people or our history of racism or our support for fascism worldwide etc, and I've got this weird condition where, the more someone lies to me, the less I like them.

I can take a lot from someone if they're straight with me about who and what they are. I am, however, someone who doesn't have a good radar for knowing when someone is deceiving me, and bullies just love people like that. I was their favorite gullible rube, and I never could seem to grasp the concept of reading people's motivations and truthfulness. Thus, I have developed an extremely low tolerance for anyone trying trick me, especially if they're doing it with nefarious intent. Once I realize what they've done, I get very hostile very quickly, and I don't forgive such behavior easily.

The same thing applies to countries, too. If I had been told the truth about our nation's history from the start, I'd be happy to look past the flaws and work with the other side to make it a more just and perfect union. But, when conservatives insist on lying to me about the world, it pushes my focus towards making them pay dearly for the deception.

That’s when they can no longer have health insurance through their parents’ health insurance policy, and have to get their own insurance.

I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.
