Thank you all for a fun Thanksgiving matinee! This Saturday we finish November's movies with melting the faces off Nazis. 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐎𝐟 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐫𝐤

That makes me nostalgic for a simpler time when we used to agree that the Nazis were the bad guys.

*"Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children* (2016), directed by Tim Burton, is an adaptation of Ransom Riggs' novel of the same name. The movie blends Burton's signature dark, whimsical style with the fantastical world of peculiar children, creating a visually captivating and otherworldly atmosphere"

When are we watching?

Happy Black Friday! I was hoping to see "Wicked" today but it is snowing out and I hate driving in that white stuff. So, I will stay home and vacuum. I have been shredding paper lately and it looks like we had a parade in some parts of the house.

I almost asked you for tips on my tarte au pommes yesterday and ended up fucking it up, how did I do that?! Grrr.

Expand full comment

That's too bad. I considered making an apple pie yesterday but the pie plate I ordered from Amazon turned out to be tiny.

Expand full comment

Oh, my!!

Mine was just a flat, uninspired thing, rather than the domed, skillet-formed classic type. But insufficient apple-age. And ought not to have lain it in a fluted tart pan, which broke up the edge too much. It was tasty and devoured, regardless. Pinches of fleur de sel and finished with a sprinkling of muscovado sugar saved it. Oh, and the heaps of whipped cream flavored with vanilla paste from Tonga, of all the odd places ;-)

I hope you enjoyed your non-Thanksgiving! I make loads of stuff mainly for leftovers; if I had to do it for a big crowd I wouldn't make nearly the variety of things as I'd be too worried of screw-ups.

OH yeah finally got raise plus raise I should have gotten last month, so it is a war on christmas bonus now and this is good because I think the ol' escape really might be dying.

As it has gotten colder, it is getting harder and harder to start. We're taking it to our guy on Monday to hopefully figure out it is just a battery or starter problem, or something under a grand, cause I really did not want raise to go to a new (er) car right now. But then, getting a newer car before tariffs hit might not be a bad idea.

"This here new Ford F-150 is great! It has all the new features! Except for the ones that don't work yet 'cause Ford can't get the chips needed to make them work. Of course, that has NOTHING to do with the demented grandpa's TARIFFS or anything!"

I *really* like our Honda Ridgeline. It's got many toys (including a tow camera as you line up a trailer), drives well, and ... it does everything I need it to do. And it's a Honda so it'll last forever as well.

If they brought the ranger back I might consider one of those, they are little beasts

But I have no need of a 150 (or larger). I ain't no farmer nor am I hauling any horses or boats about.

Interesting side note: apparently I can get a hitch put on my little escape and it can haul something like 2000lbs. I doubt it would be able to go up a hill doing so though

Fun fact (in case it hasn't been pointed out in the previous 1,245 comments, which it probably most surely has because you people are smart): Jimmy Workman, who plays Pugsly, is the brother of Ariel Winter, who played Alex Dunphy on "Modern Family."

That's all I know for today.

Just been speaking to my bro because he's got some minor issue with his computer (2013 MBP) with the lid not closing. Classic case of swollen battery, I think. I'll look at it more when I'm over and maybe Santa will buy him a new one. He's laughing because he gets zoom tech support from a silicon valley tech exec.

He was making me laugh because when it was busted before, he took it in to an Apple repair center near Alexanderplatz and it was some guy in a suit trying to help him and he noped the fuck out of there.

Then he takes it to a more local place and clocks a guy with long hair in the back with a soldering iron and a beer. "Yep, these are the people for me" he thinks.

He remembers me and my friends from when I was a lot younger. We could fix damn anything. I remember using a paperclip wrapped around a soldering iron to hold a needle in place and wearing a jewellers' loupe so that I could fix the surface mount points for a Fat Agnus chip on an Amiga 2000. After a very large gravity bong. Worked, too.

If you know, you know.

Watching Guns of Navarone. The NAZIs just nabbed Gregory Peck at the wedding. He's sitting with a little girl, who has flowers.

I met that girl. Returning from Greece, our flight from Laguardia was delayed by storms. We ended up next to a couple who were returning from Cyprus. The woman of that couple was that little girl, all growed up.

Turkey was fabulous. Stuffing was amazing. Creamed corn, I had a second helping. Gravy, ZOMG the gravy. All served on fancy assed blue dishes and complimented by fancy assed crystal-esque goblets. Pinkies were out.

Pie was not a total fail, but I will not be doing canned puree again and instead, get a roasting pumpkin. It is not THAT hard to do it that way and the taste is only 23455634536345634 times better. Plus the puree was too moist I feel.

9/10 will have feast again.

I was SO proud of myself the year I made pies out of the pumpkins I'd grown myself in my garden. The crust even came out perfectly. I prepared it all in a TINY kitchen in my former pre-WWII stucco house under the maple trees.

It was small but that place had character. I have to say that I miss it sometimes.

Nona Land Shark did pumpkin pie one year with a real pumpkin. She swore she would never do that again ... this was before "pie pumpkins" were a thing.

Think pie pumpkins have been around a really long time. Now I have a curious.

IMHO, the best pumpkin for pie is cheese pumpkin. They're rather pale, but have really thick flesh that steams or roasts to perfection.

smaller places are easier to keep clean XD Currently, our house is pretty good size, especially since there are only 4 of us, and I am full time so most the cleaning falls to hubby

And by that I mean he mostly remembers to do the bathrooms once a week and the floors maybe every 2 or so. I want anything else done, I am still doing it XD
