The company said its mobile app received hundreds of thousands of downloads after it announced Thursday that the name Lake Ontario would remain on its apps, despite Trump directing the Interior Department to update the lake’s name in the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).
By Monday morning, MapQuest had climbed to No. 1 among navigation apps in Apple’s U.S. app store and No. 4 in non-gaming apps. In Canada, which shares the lake with the U.S., the app reached No. 2 overall over the weekend.
The app’s usage also jumped to roughly 50 times its normal level, according to MapQuest.
MapQuest responded similarly to the controversy surrounding Trump’s renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” on his first day back in office, allowing its users to refer to the body of water however they please.
Regulation is what allows capitalism to function in a healthy manner. Too bad we have a cabal of assholes who have dedicated themselves to deregulating our financial system for their own benefit. Nothing new, really.

I have had a few of the plant based ones. That an employer -- *any* employer -- would lock doors in a factory and use the excuse that employees would steal breaks my heart in pieces. Our east village tenement is a short crosstown walk from the site of the Triangle Shirtwaist fire. Rana Plaza also comes to mind although that's not in this country. Unions have been responsible for every improvement today's workers have. We're retired now, but both I and my husband are #UnionStrong. Solidarity forever.
It isn't an excuse. It should be an aggravating factor. Putting a company's profits ahead of an absolute duty based on employee safety should add to the sentence.
