MapQuest tops Apple, Google Maps in downloads after refusing Trump’s ‘Lake America’ change
MapQuest has surged in popularity on the app charts after the mapping service said it would not rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America” after President Trump signed an executive order changing its name.
The company said its mobile app received hundreds of thousands of downloads after it announced Thursday that the name Lake Ontario would remain on its apps, despite Trump directing the Interior Department to update the lake’s name in the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).
By Monday morning, MapQuest had climbed to No. 1 among navigation apps in Apple’s U.S. app store and No. 4 in non-gaming apps. In Canada, which shares the lake with the U.S., the app reached No. 2 overall over the weekend.
The app’s usage also jumped to roughly 50 times its normal level, according to MapQuest.
MapQuest responded similarly to the controversy surrounding Trump’s renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” on his first day back in office, allowing its users to refer to the body of water however they please.
Ta, Erik. We have family in both Carolinas. This story is so fucking horrifying! I'm old enough and have been vegan for so long that I have never in my life had a chicken nugget. I have had a few of the plant based ones. That an employer -- *any* employer -- would lock doors in a factory and use the excuse that employees would steal breaks my heart in pieces. Our east village tenement is a short crosstown walk from the site of the Triangle Shirtwaist fire. Rana Plaza also comes to mind although that's not in this country. Unions have been responsible for every improvement today's workers have. We're retired now, but both I and my husband are #UnionStrong. Solidarity forever.
OT Treasury Sec Scott Bessant now thinks he's 'Maverick.' ✈ In the Danger Zone. Yep. Now he has not been heard to say "Talk to me Goose," in public. Probably just in the shower, taking a shit, having sex, ya know, when he's just by himself. Why? Our biggest foreign buyer of debt, Japan, is gonna buy their own debt. If fact they're gonna sell our debt to pay for it. Why? A bit less profit but none of the US risk with PoopyDiaper47 in charge. I guess they wanna feed their kids after 2028. Who knew? Bessant is gonna buy $4 billion, but Japan already sold $71 billion.
My 8th grade math says........ sorry, no math, that's like pissing a swimming pool.
It's time for him to do some of that fancy treasury stuff. Or 🔥.

<Of the plant workers who died, twelve were African American and twelve were white. A white delivery driver died while at the factory to restock vending machines, and was recognized on scene by his son, a firefighter. Autopsies indicated nearly all of the fatalities were caused by smoke inhalation, rather than direct flame injury. Air ambulances from Winston-Salem, Chapel Hill, Durham, and Charlotte collected some patients from the hospital in Hamlet and delivered them to burn units in their cities of origin. The next day, Shoney's sent a truck to pick up what chicken products could be salvaged.> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamlet_chicken_processing_plant_fire#Emergency_response_and_casualties
Nice that Shoney's came so they didn't die in vain.
And “consumers” insist on the lowest costs for their food ( so they can afford to actually eat) so John Q Moneybags cuts corners in production because gods forbid a few pennies are left out of their pockets.
Fucking Carolinas. Always the worst of the Union, pound for pound.
After the Rebellion, the Feds should've banned Carolina citizens from owning property, investments, and/or businesses, and stripped them of their right to vote. Made them lease anything that WAS theirs from the Federal government.
Bet they would've felt differently about unions after THAT.

The retort to that should be “deregulation kills people”.

Never has that ever been true in the history of the world. Greedy people don’t make ethical decisions. It’s not in their nature.

I like that idea. Especially the one about civics. If it's feasible, and you can get permission, I'd say go for it.
